Allard J2X...9778lbs of downforce?!
Okay so I was on mulsannescorner.com, looking through the aerodynamic data base and I ran into this...
http://www.mulsannescorner.com/aerod...allardj2x.html Its a car called the Allard J2X that supposedly makes 9778 lbs of downforce! wtf is that even possible? Anyway I tried searching it google, but didn't find anything. Does anybody have any more info/pics on this car?(besides the stuff on mulsannescorner, like "the Allard J2X story")

Re: Allard J2X...9778lbs of downforce?!
a formula 1 makes about that, i can't remember if they said 8,000lbs or 18,000lbs with the rear wing. they can theoretically drive upside down at 20mph.

Re: Allard J2X...9778lbs of downforce?!
while i was watching the canadian grand prix they said that they generate enough downforce at 20mph to drive upside down.

Re: Allard J2X...9778lbs of downforce?!
18,000lbs!!! ...I guess that would exaplain the 4G turning forces. Oh, yea I was gonna say like 20 mph, that seems alittle too much lol. So did anyone find any other info on the Allard?

Re: Allard J2X...9778lbs of downforce?!
no, but 4g isnt that hard with lots of downforce.
i think f1 can get near that, and still be able to drive over 200 those are some light weight and powerful cars. i do know that if an f1 car driver lets off the gas, there is a 1g decelerative force from the downforce alone at around 150 mph. add to that, the constant 2g of braking force and you have some seriously speedy braking. |

Re: Allard J2X...9778lbs of downforce?!
they usually experience 4g's of deceleration under braking, but it can be as high as 5 or 6g's.

Re: Allard J2X...9778lbs of downforce?!
in the 80s i believe some ran as much as 8g in cornering.
drivers often gave in the call of nature from the forces.

Re: Allard J2X...9778lbs of downforce?!
8GS! omg, wow. I was reading that at a certain point the driver would have to wear a pressure suit just to drive the car safely (like the blood would rush out of his head if he didn't). Is 8G anywhere near that point?

9g for 1 second is the about the practical limit of the human body before you start to pass out. Of course personal fitness and health has a huge bearing on that, people have been know to pass out from as little as 5g.

Re: Allard J2X...9778lbs of downforce?!
ooo hahhhh, lol. WOW the fan car made that much downforce??? I opened up a thread to discuss the fan cars and how they work (like the brahman BT46 car and the chaparrall 2J) but it got closed because it was supposedly "dicussed already". Thats nuts though; btw just out of curiosity...why doesn't any one make a fan car again today? Is it because its not worth it, or because its been banned or is it something else?

Re: Allard J2X...9778lbs of downforce?!
it's banned. lots of Gordon Murray's designs were. they were so good but they got banned.
the reason it got banned (on paper) wasn't to even the competition, it was because everything the fan sucked up was shot out the back, so if you were behind you ran the risk of getting hit by stones and any other crap that was sucked up.
