Buick Auto Trans Gasket

Is it true a replacement gasket for a 99 Regal automatic transmission is $110+ or is the mechanic giving me the business?

Re: Buick Auto Trans Gasket

Welcome to AF.

More details are needed for this question.............

Which gasket? The trans has lots of them....... lets assume you mean the pan gasket, which is the most common one to replace.

Is the old gasket just leaking or is there other trouble with the trans?

Is the mechanic charging you $110 just for the part, or is he going to install it?

If the mechanic is replacing the gasket, he should also do a transmission service...... drop the pan and clean it out, replace the trans oil filter (which is only accessible when the pan is removed) reinstall the pan and add about 8-10 quarts new fluid.

For such a service, $110 is a bit expensive but not unreasonable. You should be able to get this done for about $70-80 though.

Re: Buick Auto Trans Gasket

Thanks for your input.....It is my son's Buick.....I do all my own work so I wasn't up on what the dealerships were socking the people. He said that was just the dealerships quote on the pan gasket ....to replace the filter and a complete trans flush was $330. I told him that was overboard and that he didn't need a total flush if even that, he only has 60,000 miles on the vehicle. Unfortunately he lives too far away for me to do it for him.

Those prices are WAY too much. That gasket costs about $10 aftermarket........ about $25 tops, with a new filter.

My local mechanic charges $100 for a flush (using a Snap- On flushing machine), and about $60 more to change the filter and pan gasket.
