97 Ford Contour rear end rattle
I have rattle in the rear of the car somewhere that is very noticeable on slightly rough roads. It sometimes makes a loud clunk that sounds like metal against metal. Took it to a local Big O tire and the said it was sway bark links and rear struts that need replacing. Visual inspection I can't see anything wrong with the bushings or linkage in the sway bars. They seem nice and tight with no visible wear or damage. Any ideas?

Re: 97 Ford Contour rear end rattle
Before replacing the sway bar bushings or the struts I would first check the mounting bolts and nuts. Sometimes the rubber in the bushings gets loose as it gets older and it need to be tightened up some. There was some very good advice in a related post stating that in the inside of the muffler the baffles could have come loose. I'd grab onto the tailpipe and give the system a good shake.
