Re: 98 Ford Contour 2.0L 4 cyl
OKAY in all of the posts I have found NONE of them actually say HOW to remove the camshaft. They all talk about the belt and gear.
The problem I have is that I have removed all of the cap bolts but the cam still will not lift out of the head. There is a piece that is wrapped around the front of the cam that has the VCT solenoid attached to it. I removed a 6mm bolt from the front of the head but it still will not budge. How does it come out????? |

Re: 98 Ford Contour 2.0L 4 cyl
I have 98 Ford contour . It is idling rough , and cutting off when it is idling. You have to keep your foot on the gas to keep it running. We have replaced the alternator, plugs wires, battery, timing belt ,fuel filter ,and pulleys . Please someone help me.

I just changed the timing belt on a 99 Contour 2.0L DOHC engine. I did it the too quick way and somehow ended up having the exhaust camshaft 1 or 2 sprocket teeth advanced. It ran fine above idle with plenty of power but had problems just as you described above, occasionally I'd get a check engine light as well. I had to take it all apart again and do it the right way....now it runs fine. The engine had stalled on the freeway due to the lower idler pulley being cracked which resulted in a loose timing belt.
