AC Relay Problem

I've got a 00 RX300. The light on the AC button flashes and intermittent cold. So I figured it was the relay. Inserting a paper clip, I know it's a no-no, keeps the air blowing. So I moved another of the exact same relays over to the AC slot (see picture #1). Still no air. So it doesn't appear that another relay fixes it. But why would the paperclip get it running? The problem with the clip is that it quits after an hour and won't blow cold again for an hour or so.

Pic (attached)

No matter what combination of relay moving between 1,2, and 3. The air will not blow cold without a paper clip.

Any ideas?

Pic (attached) layout..

1) is the AC
2) ?
3) is fuel pump

Re: AC Relay Problem

The a/c relay is NOT commanded on would be the reason swapping doesn't help--- so when you put the a/c relay in the horn relay slot-- does horn work? Sure it does, because you have a perfectly good a/c relay that is NOT being told to come on-- Jumping the socket turns the switch on that the car's computer says to keep it off- there is a reason for the "NO a/c" command. you need to find it-- most likely reason is low refrigerant charge due to a leak-- adding refrigerant would probably allow the system to command on the compressor. But you need to find anfix the leak first.

Also, there could be pressure sensor issues, or temperature sensor issues- this is where a scan tool would be needed..
