Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03
Thanks for the review Joel. Now I know not to buy one of these. Poor fit and an almost worthless resin blob of en engine. Not for me, thanks.

Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03
Resin engine is like you say, a blob. But the fit wasn't that bad at all. It came together fine when glued.

Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03
How are you going on this Joel - I need some focus to get started again coming off night shift in couple of weeks and looking at getting some serious kit building going have you added any detail to the lifeless looking engine or just leave as is ? as will be covered by fairing?

Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03
haha, I always think I will manage that...sometimes I even think I could just paint the entire engine block black as it close to never is visible at all. But then I start making some small adjustments that always seem to grow out of hand. In this particular case that mean that I cut away the but ugly exhaust pipes and will try and make some scratch built ones.
I have had a slow period as there is a lot to do with the house we are building but the resin parts and the front mud guard and the frame/swing arm sections are all cleaned up, puttied and primed. I just got some c/f from Dave at detail and design in scale the other day to go on the lower cowl, front fender and air box. Hope to try out the Lime Green color from Hiroboy in a week or two. /Joel

Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03
While you guys await the 06 Kawasaki kit from Tamiya I'm striving along with my S27 kit where one of the larger steps are done. I've fitted the cowls together, puttied, sanded and primed, puttied, sanded, primed, leaving me with this for a base to be painted.
Worst part to get smooth was the lower cowl and I didn't quite get the surface to level inside the air intake of the top cowl. Finally I just left it as it was and hopefully that won't be too visible. Off to some base painting. This is my first attempt on using the Zero Base Paints that can be aquired from Hiroboy.com. I've heard a lot about this paint and was really up to try it. It didn't leave me unsatisfied. I painted the parts at a preassure of approximately 20 psi and giving the parts 6 or 7 mist coats from a distance of 10 cm (4 inches). The paint dries flat and the first part was able to get the next layer as soon as I put the second part down. No need for wet coats as the paint will be clear coated to get its final look. Here's a few shots: The Kawasaki Lime green color has a pearl effect wich can be viewed on these pictures where the part is held to the light: Next I'll clear coat the parts and mask the side cowls off to paint the black section on the under cowl. Comments are welcome as always! /Joel

Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03
Tried out the 2K clear from Zero just now. This is a true joy to work with. Brought out the shine ocf the lime green beautifully. I'll show you pictures as soon as possible.

Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03
Hi,
great job on the fairing regarding the parts as they came out of the kit-box. That green looks cool even without clear (last foto)

Re: Kawaskaki ZX-RR ´03
Joel,
The cowling and paint look great! I'm looking forward to seeing the clear coated body. What paint code was it from Zero? was it just the base Candy Lime?
