What would you want to do if you were given this Jimmy for free?

What would you want to do if you were given a running '94 Jimmy V6 AT 4-door 113k miles for free? It needs the coolant system overhauled. It might need a new headgasket. It definitely needs work with the CGI and/or EGR. 1 window motor and the radio need to be replaced.

What would you do with it?

Cooling system doesn't need an overhaul, all you will need is to flush the system and install a new rad cap or even a new thermostat.

CPI and EGR can be bought cheaply off of ebay.

All the rest of it could be easily done by yourself in a couple of days and a good repair manual.

OK guys. It looks like the consensus is to fix it up and keep it. Thanks for voting all.

BlazerLT: with the rusty ooze dripping into the passenger compartment through the heater vents, I would hazard a guess that the heater core is hosed. I bought a replacement for $20. I'm planning on installing the core on Sat. I will also flush out the radiator & reservoir.

I have a Haynes manual to help me.

The engine is a vortec V6 4.3L. Can you tell me how to determine which engine type I have based on the VIN?

Don't bother, I know what it is, it is a Vin W CPI 4.3L Vortec.

I own the same injection system myself and can help you with most of it.

The one thing you should do it do a complete tuneup with EVERY fluid flushed and refilled and every filter replaced.

BlazerLT: So what do you consider a "complete tune-up"? plugs, wires, disributor cap & rotor? Any valves that you replace at scheduled intervals? When you say fluids, you mean coolant, oil, tranny? All this?

Along with those you mentioned, replace your PCV valve, air filter and fuel filter.

Other things as usual maintanance that few actually do is:

Coolant System Flush and fill
Tranny System Flush and fill with new tranny filter (Use Synthetic)
Transfer Case Fluid Change (Use Synthetic)
Front and Rear Differenttial fluid change (Use Synthetic 80w90)

This way you will be able to take full advantage of your tuneup and keep everything tip top.

How often do you re-pack your wheel bearings?

And I never heard of a "tranny filter"... Did you mean tranny fluid?

You don't repack bearings on a 4x4. You replace them.

Yes, all automatic transmissions have a internal filter.

My '94 Jimmy V6 4.3L is actually a 2WD. I don't mind replacing bearings anyway. I mean you got them out, you might as well put some nice new ones in right? What brand of wheel bearings do you use? Have you noticed any difference in the quality of bearings?

For curiosity sake, how often do you replace your 4x4 wheel bearings?

You will have to drop the pan to get at it.

You don't have to replace the wheel bearings all the time just because it is 4wd. You can definatly repack them, which should be done every several months or whenever you take it off-road (if you do). The only time you will need to replace them is if they start to look worn at all, or if you can wiggle the wheel back and forth when it is up off the ground (with a floor jack or whatever you have).

Sorry, but you cannot repack 4x4 bearings, only 2x4.

They are a pressed sealed bearing assembly.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Guess what I just did today, I repacked the bearings (all 8 of them, on all 4 corners of the vehicle) on my truck . And yes, it is certainly a 4x4!!! I can take pictures and everything to to prove you wrong. So......

Don't fu**in argue about something you don't know.

Ok smartass, post the pictures, I would like to see you repack a sealed bearing assembly.

Oh really, so why does my service manual state that you can only repack 2x4 bearing properly then?
