I apologize to you all for being a runaway train. Now, to get back on topic, is this the intriguing machine you are talking about, Adam? It looks like a whole lot of fun, but it also seems far too radical to make it to the production office. Anyone know if a date has been set?

Note the versatility of the modern L.E.D. taillights--since they do not take up much depth, the slim light platform can join the action and retract with the rest of the tailgate. Also note that this vehicle is another example of the revival of suicide doors, along with Mazda and Saturn.

Well, I just took a look in the "Toyota - Nonspecific" thread, but I couldn't find anything about the conceptual Toyota RSC. Therefore, I will post this data in this thread, especially because it forms an analogy with the whole Toyota Matrix / Pontiac Vibe deal. Many of you are preferring Toyota's upcoming Matrix to Pontiac's Vibe.
So, what do you all think of the Pontiac R.E.V.? Interesting enough, no? Although, I haven't found any HARD information YET concerning some type of alliance between Toyota and Pontiac, I believe something is going on. At the 2001 Chicago Auto Show, Toyota unveiled it's RSC (Rugged Sports Coupe). It appears to be another hybrid, this time of the SUV + rally coupe variety, while integrating an almost Millennium Falcon plus Baja-like RC-10 appeal. But this isn't why I am turning to AF for input & answers. I haven't found any reports yet that the RSC and REV are related, but to me, they look like sister cars. Perhaps the REV has 2 extra doors, but that cannot mean much since most automakers are fully capable of transforming a car's skin into something far different, while retaining the same chassis. Take a look. Please give your feedback regarding which you prefer, AND what you might know about its relationship with the Pontiac. |

I, for one, choose the RSC, solely because it represents Toyota's long and successful heritage involving rally racing. If the Pontiac is truly a reskinned RSC, then it doesn't stand for anything.

They had the pontiac vibe on display (mebbe 3 or 4 of them) at the Vans warped tour. They looked way out of place. I noticed the toyota vvti engine and found that to be odd.

VVTL-i, not VVT-i. I'm not surprised that Pontiac used Toyota's power, after all, they used the rest of the chassis as well. Plus, Pontiac doesn't make a drivetrain capable of emulating the high spirited enthusiasm of the 6-speed 2ZZ-GE. Everyone remember the Mitsubishi Eclipse (GS-T/GSX) & Eagle Talon (TSi/AWD) sister cars? Both powered by the same older Mitsu Lancer motor. Funny, the equally capable Talon was shitcanned after poor sales, while the Eclipse became a hot item that went on to earn Mitsubishi's title of "the fastest growing Japanese car company". |
