99 Windstar won't upshift in top gear

My 99 Windstar, among its other problems, won't upshift into top gear (is that 3rd, or an additional, overdrive gear?). This isn't that big of a problem, except on the freeway, where the RPM's are at about 2500 to keep it at 60 on level ground, whereas they normally are under 2000 to go that speed.

Is this the fault of the transmission range sensor, the vehicle speed sensor, or something else? The transmission was replaced at about 75k.

Thanks!

It sounds like you are not going into 4th gear.....often called overdrive.
Make sure that the button at the end of the gear select has not been pushed.......if the O/D light is ON....then the button has been pushed, which disables 4th Gear.....and the 1st 3 gears will work as normal.

That was the very first thing I thought of. The light is not on, but I should try pushing it to see if perhaps the bulb doesn't work. I've had transmission issues in the past, that's why I was wondering.

I was hoping for a cheap and easy solution.....best to check that before going for a diagnostic and $$$
