Easy Horsepower

Well i have a 1980 Datsun 210. And 65 horsepower (at the flywheel) just isnt cutting it anymore for me. I was wondering if anyone here knew of anyway to get some more horsepower out of this engine. Money is kinda tight but any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance for the help!

sorry i didn't respond sooner, i've been really busy and i don't have a good answer for you.

those A-motors are useless junk. all cast iorn, pushrod, small displacement, basically not worth putting any money into (gains too small). the only way you will make significantly more power with this motor is to throw some dual sidedraft carbs on it. that costs a good sum of money and would be a waste of good cash. your only real option for real power is to swap.

a weber 32/36 DGV, DGEV, DGAV kit would work wonders, but isn't cheap. i get most of my weber stuff from top-end performance.

check out this page and also explore this clubs website, they use the same A-series motors as your 210. there is alot of info and help here.
the page focuses on engine tuning and swaps, the site is the Datsun 1200 club.

depending on your local smog and noise laws, you could remove the air cleaner and cut off your muffler. you might see some power improvement.

sorry i can't give you free horsepower, but i hope this helps.

Re: Easy Horsepower

Try the basic tune up:

New plugs and wires.
New cap and rotor.
New air filter.
Check the timing.
Put good oil in it (Datsuns are picky about oil).

1980 should have electronic ignition so you don't need to worry about that.

Remove everything from the car that you don't need to lower the weight of the car.

Aside from that you are looking at engine modifications and/or swapping the engine for something with more displacement.
