1969 Camaro SS VIN & COWL tag ID?

Hello,

I'm obviously bran new to this forum & I like most I am looking for some help.

I found an "allegedly" a 1969 Camaro SS that originally had a 396 big block 4 speed.

The Camaro was dismantled as part of a failed restoration project and has been siting in pieces for 15 years.

The car does not have the original motor or transmission anymore, but I was looking and hoping someone could ID the VIN & COWL tag for me?

I know a lot of Camaros have had VINS & tags swapped out to make them look like original SS models and I was told some of the "experts" can even tell if the rivets in the vins & cowl tags are original.

I've also included a picture of the car prior to disassembly. After the 396 was "blown up" it was replaced with a 350 and the emblems added on I guess or at least that's what I was told.

ANY HELP OR INFORMATION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE,
Steve

Re: 1969 Camaro SS VIN & COWL tag ID?

USMC2531, I am just curious as to what you were able to find out about the car?
The VIN does indicate it is a 1969 Camaro V8 Sport Coupe, with Standard Interior, built in Norwood, Ohio. (Note: Sport Coupe does not mean an SS or Z-28 car. There were Convertibles, or Sport Coupes, that was it). No way to tell from the VIN, whether it was an SS or Z28 car.
OK, now here is where it gets good! The cowl tag indicates it was built in the 3rd week of January, 1969. Paint Code 71 is LeMans Blue, and the "B" is a Black Vinyl Top, so those seem to check out ok. Trim code 711 means it should have a black interior.
And finally - the X66 signifies that it is a Base sport coupe with the SS396 package!
The only thing that doesn't look correct on the pictures, is the rear panel should be black on big-block cars. But that could have been a lesser repaint job, that was just single color re-spray. Congratulations! Please keep us updated on the project! I love it! Hope you will put a big block in it, no small-block or LS engine can compare to the sound and feel of a BBC.
