The Demise of The Broken Black Beater *56k DEATH*

Well guys, as many of you know I have two AWD Talons, a black 91 parts car and a purple 90 project car. Today I started stripping the parts car. Man I wish I would have brought my camera! We really went to town on that beast. We learned so much today.

All we need to do is pull the engine/tranny out. We got all the shit stripped out of the engine bay, pull the cams, then head, AC compressor, axles, starter, and everything else. We supported the engine from underneath then unbolted the motor/tranny mounts and tried to give her a yank. What a fucking retarded idea that was . I was told the short block is around 200 lbs while the tranny is a little less than 100. I figured the three of us strapping young lads ought to be able to manage to pick up around 100 lbs each. We were wrong. That fucker did not want to come out. It was dark so we just decided to come back in the morning with Eric's hydraulic lift. Well now we cant get it so we are going to have to get creative, ha ha.

Another sorta funny thing to find out is that car has been in a major front end collision. I dont know what its called, but that big metal peice at the front of the car had "90 eclipse front ????" written on it. Remember, that is a 91 Talon. So thats sweet to find out.

Also, the engine is in pretty decent shape! I am stoked as hell. The cylinder walls were in great shape and there was even a bit of cross hatching left! No scoring on the cam rubbing surfaces. Its sweet, I am fucking excited to rebuild it.

I was also attacked by the T case. I was prying it off with a screwdriver and my buddy Eric was like, "I know how this is going to end, with a dull thud and a bunch of curse words." I was like, "Oh yeah?" I gave it one more twerk with the screw driver and *thump* "OW FUCKIN ASS!!!" So yeah, I think I messed up a little on the last part of my middle finger. I dont have a whole lot of feeling in it except that it hurts especially on the nail.

Anyway, tomorrow we will pull the rest of the engine and tranny and take some pics of our handiwork. More later!

Yep. Engines are heavy

Well two of us lifted my long block up. But we weren't lifting it up higher than a foot or so, just to set it on a crate.

Now you should take an axe to the rest of the car and just beat on it for fun.

Re: The Demise of The Broken Black Beater

Ha ha, yeah, she is getting stripped of everything remotely useable (including the wheels, axles, brakes) loaded with a fork lift onto a flat bed and dumped a yard. I need the windshield, but we can stand to beat the piss out the rest of it.

Also, Definancy has just clued me in on how to get the bottom end and tranny out. Drop the cross members, lower the bottom end and tranny to the ground, then it will be light enough for the three of us to lift up the front end and roll it back over the engine! Yeenyus!!

Re: The Demise of The Broken Black Beater

Well, as promised, heres the pics.

Heres his house... a freakin car graveyard. If you look, there is an FC, some Hyundai, a CRX, my black Talon, his parts car red Talon, a 3rd gen Supra under the car cover, another buddy's Civic, a Cavalier station wagon, another station wagon, the old Accord my buddy drove out there, and my Cavalier.

Heres the car as we left it....

Whoa, whats that shit on the ground?

"Keeper" parts waiting in the Talon.

Packin up, had to put our impromptu drip pan somewhere!

The Cavy all loaded up. I was riding on the damn bumpstops all the way home!

All the shit packed in the trunk.

Who's got shoddy?

So yeah, thats my day in a nutshell! Got the engine bay pretty much stripped, it was a good day. Tomorrow the block gets stripped more, I will have the brackets and shit off the outside, the timing belt shit off, and hopefully the front case, water pump, crank, flywheel, and pistons/rods. I havent decided yet, maybe not but we'll see. What do yall think of that shit?

Shit, it hasn't been cold at all up here lately (North Dakota). It's 32 here right now and on a normal winter the high wouldn't even be close to 32, it's been so warm. Today was the warmest day in 111 years up here, craazzzzzy shit, I'm almost thinking of putting the 20's back on the monte, but it's so sloppy outside and I just polished them.

Re: The Demise of The Broken Black Beater *56k DEATH*

Yeah, the last couple January's up here we have been in the double digits below 0. Its been rediculous, normally up here we rarely get a day above freezing. Though we've had a few days around freezing, I cant remember a day since like the middle of November thats been in the 20's range, and I dont think I have seen anything below 20 yet this year. Its fucked up. Working on the car today and yesterday all I needed was a pair of pajamas under my jeans on bottom, two pairs of socks and my work boots, spandex, polypropaline long sleeve, and a T shirt and even at that we were constantly rolling up our sleeves. Shiiiit, pretty soon BIR will open all year long.

Me and some buddies took the head off his Neon R/T (420A), except it was in a garage. Your pics reminded me alot of that. You guys are hardcore to be doin that on cold, wet, snowy ground, haha.

Re: The Demise of The Broken Black Beater *56k DEATH*

Where I work, I end up with a shit load of old packing blankets for furniture. So whenever I have to work on a car I just throw a couple of the those down, works great on snow or small gravel drive ways. They work really good on garage floors.
