2004 Rodeo Cruise control, 3.5L
Cruise quit and I don't have any information on diagnosis or repair. Dash light at Cruise On/Off switch shows a green light on engine start, but nothing after that. Anyone have information on these?

does the switch turn turn the cruise on when you push it on? if not the switch might be bad...

Re: 2004 Rodeo Cruise control, 3.5L
Thanks for the reply. I thought about a bad switch, since I get nothing when I push it. I read some other posts where a Check Engine Light also disables the Cruise, and I've had a CEL for about as long as the cruise has been down.
FWIW: the CEL is code tells me it's caused by O2 sensors, on the drivers side, but I replaced both and it didn't fix it. Are there more than two O2 sensors on each side? Go Badgers, Class of 1969. |

Re: 2004 Rodeo Cruise control, 3.5L
The CEL should not affect the cruise to work.
You are correct there are only 2 O2 sensors on each side ... the most common cause for an emissions code to pop up is a leaking intake manifold gasket. I have 150k on my truck and have had to have it replaced 3 times and I know it is cracked again ... the main sign is a slight fluctuation in the RPMs at idle (like 20 to 50 rpm) ... a couple times a month I have a flashing CEL (which means there is a miss-fire detected) which is probably caused by the leaking intake manifold gasket (the truck still runs just fine).

Re: 2004 Rodeo Cruise control, 3.5L
The code I got was for an O2 sensor; could this be an manifold leak masquerading as an O2 sensor issue?
Truck has 116K on it and runs fine, but has never been as smooth at idle as either of the 2001, 3.2L, V-6's I had. One of the 2001's is still running strong with about 135K, I sold the other with 162K and neither it or the 2004 has needed and intake manifold gasket. Guess I lucked out. How do you get at the Cruise control switch. I gave it a quick look, but didn't see anything obvious behind the 4WD switch when I pulled it off. |

The 2004 has a different dash then my 2000 ... I'm not sure if you can remove the panel to remove the button ...
check your owners manual to to see what fuse the cruise goes through ....

Re: 2004 Rodeo Cruise control, 3.5L
It was an O2 sensor causing a CEL and knocking out the cruise control.
I had the CEL code scanned (again) and was told it was the downstream O2 sensor--driver's side. I'd been told this 2-3 times previously, and had replaced both O2's on drivers side some time ago with no result. I replaced the more accessible upper passenger's side O2 a week ago, no result and just was able to get at the downstream yesterday. After driving 30 miles or so, the CEL is GONE and cruise control works for the first time in 2+ years. FWIW, every time I was told which bank the bad O2 was on, they got it wrong, so beware when they tell you left or right side. |
