VR4 vs. Boxster S

What's up everybody, hope the weekend is going well. I thought I'd share a race I had about a month or so ago for your weekend enjoyment. My memory was sparked when I saw the Boxster driving this morning.

I was driving to my house with my girlfriend on a Friday evening in the VR4 (stock) minding my own business on the highway when I noticed some white lights approaching rather quickly. I was travelling along at about 70-75mph and a dark blue Porsche Boxster flies past me doing 90+. It was a convertible, I would guess a 2000 or 2001. I tried to ignore him but he nonchalantly changed lanes in front of me - I hate it when people take like 20 seconds to change a lane and never touch their signal light. Anyway, I dropped the Mitsu into 3rd and began chase. I think he saw me coming and tried to hold me off but it was too late, I was coming up on him quickly, but we were also coming up on traffic quickly. Just as I got up behind him and changed lanes, he swerved out in front of me and then slowed a bit (to 90-ish). We passed the line of cars and he pulled in quickly.

I had been sitting in 3rd just waiting and when he pulled in, I hit it. I think he hesitated for a fraction of a second which is far too long versus my VR4. 90, 100, 110, I went by him quite convincingly - a few car lengths. Nevertheless, he did remain fairly close, and pulled out behind me. I kept it pinned until about 140mph according to my probably optimistic speedometer, and he stayed 4 or 5 lengths behind me, not really losing anymore ground, but he certainly didn't gain any either. I braked and took my exit, and he followed, eventually turning and not even acknowledging me. I was unable to tell whether or not it was an "S" at the time, although I suspected it was due to its respectable performance. I saw today that it was.

My car did ok, but it's still capable of better...I hope any performance loss due to backfiring will be remedied with the installation of 6 new spark plugs. On a side note, the car is in the driveway right now. I bought it from Texas (I live in Atlantic Canada), and still have the Texas plates on it. I have to pay the remaining 7% tax to finish the job. The police told me they would tow it next time they saw it with those plates, so now I'm saving for the remainder of the tax. I want to sell it asap as well, we'll see how it goes. Hope you enjoyed reading about the kill a fraction as much as I enjoyed doing the killing. Until next time...

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.
