VTec engagement

What is VTEC engagement? How does it work (@ what rpm)? Do I need to install any thing to make it work? Also does the car have to said what model type in the back. Because mine doesn't state what type. But the engine does said VTEC H22A.

Re: VTec engagement

no. VTEC engages right around 5k-5.1k rpms and in a prelude, you'll feel it. not only does it rev faster as it hits, you hear a screeching sound as it goes. and yeah, if your engine has the vtec head and h22a tag on it, it means your car was originally not a vtec lude but a swap was done with a jdm h22a.

Re: VTec engagement

No, just because ur Lude (93-96) doesn't say VTEC on the back doesn't mean ur car wasn't a VTEC Model the sticker on 93-96 Lude's that say VTEC is really CHEAP so overtime or new paint job's it could of been removed...look for VTEC feat's if ur worried about it...RMP Redline, center spear in the REAR, brake light on REAR TAIL, etc.

Re: VTec engagement

Well it's a VTEC but I don't think it's a jdm vtec The engine look very clean so I don't so. Well It red line around 9k rpm, i'll check it again to make sure. I'll also check for the spear/brake light in the rear of the car. I will check the VTEC engagement after i get my car fix, the rpm meter is acting up(jumping all over the place. The mechanic said I need a new distributor, he'll get one from the junk yard for about 125 dollars. I also need a new hood, if any one know where I can get one for cheap let me know. Carbon fiber hood are prefer but I can settle for an OEM

Re: VTec engagement

I will try to post the pics of the car, the accidents doesn't do too much damage to the car. Just the hood and distributor. Also the batt.ery might be dead ( having trouble starting)

check the block, does it say h22a or h22a#?

and you redline it mid 7, not 9.

Re: VTec engagement

Just for those who need a clue yes the vtech does engage at 5200 rpm, but maybe you have noticed that it doesn't always kick in on that note now here is the most important two things to remember water temp has to be at 150 F give or take a few degrees that means in the morning you hop in your car and take off without the warmup vtech will not be working the next thing is oil pressure if you are running a qaurt low the vtech will not engage until the pressure is at the right point that means you will probably exceed the normal 5200 rpm engagement until you build the correct oil pressure then it will kick in, but really just don't let your oil level get low the stock vtech contoller is from the ecu witch moniter's the temp & oil pressure to the most fuel efficiant and by gaining instead of losing hp in the high rpm's by engaging the cams into a higher performance level and that is done by the oil pressure opening the cylinoid that is the round little tower thingy two wires should come the tower one is a natural ground and the other comes from the ecu. Now for those who had the patence to read this from the top you can make a vtech light with those two wires comming from the vtech cylinoind tower get a led hell pretty much any light works positive is the one coming from the ecu the other is your ground run it through the fire wall mount it anywhere you want just make sure it is visable baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam its smooth then if you just do not know when vtech engages or if it even does, but if you absolutly want full controll of vtech engagement there is a way!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: VTec engagement

VTEC, not V-TECH, and not VTECH. VTECH is an electronics company that makes telephones.
