'70 AAR Cuda Trans-Am

Building Dan Gurney's car from the 1/25 scale Revell Hemi Cuda. The lime green parts come from the 1/24 scale Monogram AAR Cuda. Air cleaner from the '66 Revell Shelby GT350. Intake manifold from the AMT '70 Duster. Scratch built the headers and cross over oil tube.

Re: '70 AAR Cuda Trans-Am

They acid dipped the bodies to reduce weight but as a consequence also reduced rigidity. Therefore they added a lot of reinforcing starting with the elaborate roll cage.

The reinforcing continued under the car by adding a cross brace.

Re: '70 AAR Cuda Trans-Am

Looking great so far! I would like to do this car as well sometime in the future but don't know that I have the skills or patience to take it to this level. Will definitely be following!

Wheels are the excellent 15" Minilites from Fireball Modelworks. Tires are the Good-Year Sports Car Specials that have been issued in numerous kits with some sidewall lettering removed.

Re: '70 AAR Cuda Trans-Am

Thanks Chris. If I could find a MPC '70 Challenger body for a fair price I would like to do Sam Posey's ride but no luck to date in acquiring one.

I agree, very inspiring and motivating job. I loved those spaceframe roll cage so clean, and your dry fitting test are a pleasure for eyes, great.

Re: '70 AAR Cuda Trans-Am

Thank you for the comments. The actual build took about 6-months and was completed a few weeks ago. Wanted to share it here as a WIP thread so you could see the added detail more clearly.
