!998 Engine Code P0742

I have a code P0742 locked up torque converter. How can I figure out what is wrong? Is there a sensor I can change to "unlock" this? Where do I start?
Thanks All

Re: !998 Engine Code P0742

Welcome to AF!

Start by flushing the transmission fluid if it is any color but bright red, if it smells burnt at all, or if it's been more than 30k miles since the last flush. It probably needs a flush anyway (NOT a pan drop, this is worse than leaving the old fluid in there). I don't have access to the code definitions at home (easily, anyway), but I'm guessing the code is for not locking up, since you would have probably said the engine dies coming to stops if it were staying locked. I have seen a flush fix this exact same problem on a Cavalier before. I'm not saying it will fix it for you, but there's a good chance it will.
