Transmission problem?
I have a 2000 SR5 Toyota 4runner 4x4 with automatic transmission.
The wife was driving it yesterday, had been making some noise towards the front, however I have replaced both CV axles as well as all ball joints and tie rod ends. The vehicle shook and popped when she was driving it. she pulled over. Now you can start the engine, purrs like a kitten. when you shift into drive or reverse an awful grinding noise starts and will not stop until you put it in park or neutral. Vehicle will not move on its own. Is this the transmission, I do not think it has anything to do with the transfer case as I am not shifting into 4wd. This grinding starts as soon as you shift to drive or reverse. Any ideas? |

Re: Transmission problem?
Check to make sure the front wheels are not powered. It sounds to me like you are in 4wd, even though it is not shifted that function. It might have gotten stuck in 4wd somehow. You should be able to turn the front drive shaft freely.
