Question Smoked Black Chevelle SS

My grandmother was a muscle car type of girl in her prime, and her biggest regret in life is giving up her Chevelle SS for a POS station wagon that eventually had the gear linkage installed backwards, almost killing her on more than one occasion.

The one thing that always stood out to me was the paint scheme of her Chevelle, "Smoked Black." I can't find any pictures of something of the sort, and was hoping someone here might have an example. Really I'd just like to see it for myself, and show her since she got rid of it so long ago.

Sorry if this doesn't fit the purpose of the forum or something, just getting a little desperate.

Re: Smoked Black Chevelle SS

All I know is that it was the Coupe version, and a SS. I know it wasn’t the wagon they started making toward the end of the Chevelle’s run, it couldn't have been the 1965-1967 runs because she had a used 62 Thunderbird until I think 1968-ish. The Chevelle was bought new buy her, so definitely somewhere in the 1968-1970 region.

Re: Smoked Black Chevelle SS

AlanCPierce, can you get a bit more info from her? Perhaps the model year of her Chevelle?
When you say "paint scheme", is this just a reference to the particular color? (Or maybe some other details as well, such as striping, fading, etc).
I am not aware of any Chevy factory paint color that was branded as "Smoked Black". Did she buy the car brand new? Could it have been after-market paint job?
Just trying to help.
