2000 Power Sliding Door

Long story short it stopped working. I have tried the reset method with no luck and I can't seem to get it to give me the codes per the factory service manual. This is what I do know when you release the door it unlatches but won't open, I can hear the motor trying to run but it won't pull the door open and it sounds like it immediately reverses but the door does not move. Please send help.

Any water under the front passenger side carpet issues? There are electrical connections under there that when wet cause electrical problems.

Power Sliding Door (PSD) Diagnostic Information
Power Sliding Door (PSD)
The Power Sliding Door (PSD) provides built-in diagnostics. This assists the service technicians during troubleshooting.

The PSD has the following diagnostic capabilities:

• Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

• Input/output tests

Diagnostic Approach
In order to reduce diagnosis time and prevent unnecessary part replacement, follow these steps when performing PSD diagnostics:

Verify the customer's complaint. Become familiar with the normal operations of the PSD. Refer to Power Sliding Door (PSD) Customer Concerns for a list of the most common customer concerns.
Perform these preliminary inspections:
- Conduct a thorough visual inspection.

- Review the vehicle's service history.

- Detect any unusual sounds during the PSD operation.

Perform the PSD Diagnostic System Check. Refer to Power Sliding Door (PSD) Diagnostic System Check . The PSD Diagnostic System Check performs a complete test of the PSD and leads the technician through an organized diagnostic approach that includes the following aspects:
- Reads Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTCs) stored in memory. Follow the designated DTC tables exactly in order to make an effective repair.

- Finds symptoms with no DTCs. Follow the symptom tables exactly in order to make an effective repair.

Check for service bulletins, videos and newsletters.
Diagnose a symptom with no published diagnostics. Analyze the complaint then develop a plan for the diagnostics utilizing the wiring diagrams and the theory of operation.
After isolating the cause of the malfunction make the necessary repairs. When the repairs are complete, confirm that the malfunction has been corrected successfully by repeating the Power Sliding Door (PSD) Diagnostic System Check .

Fixing Intermittent Malfunctions
As with most electronic systems, intermittent malfunctions may be difficult to diagnose. Most intermittent malfunctions are caused by faulty electrical connections or wiring. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems for a detailed explanation of how to locate and repair intermittent conditions.

Keep in mind the following tips when diagnosing intermittent malfunctions:

Review the DTCs stored.
Inspect the service bulletins for similar cases where repair history may be available.
Evaluate the symptoms and conditions described by the customer.
Use a check sheet or another method in order to identify the circuit or electrical system component.
Follow the suggestions in diagnostic aids.
Verify the complaint under the conditions described by the customer.
Determine whether the condition described by the customer is normal and not related to a PSD malfunction. Verify the complaint against another vehicle that is operating normally.
Self-Diagnostics
The PSD contains sophisticated on-board diagnostics designed to identify the source of any PSD malfunctions, including whether or not the malfunction is intermittent. The PSD installed on domestic vehicles have seven Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and 3 diagnostic modes.

Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
Refer to Diagnostic Modes within Power Sliding Door Diagnostic Information for more information on how to read PSD DTCs.

Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) in the rear side door actuator control module clear when the following actions occur:

• Exiting diagnostics. Refer to How to Exit Diagnostics within Power Sliding Door Diagnostic Information.

• After reinstalling or replacing the radio fuse.

• After reconnecting the vehicle battery.

• After recharging the vehicle battery.

Diagnostic Modes
The PSD has 3 diagnostic modes:

• Diagnostic Mode 1: Reads Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

• Diagnostic Mode 2: Inspects PSD inputs.

• Diagnostic Mode 3: Performs a test of the power sliding door unlatch actuator.


How to Enter Diagnostics
Entering PSD diagnostics is done by gaining entry into Diagnostic Mode 1. Refer to How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 1 within Power Sliding Door Diagnostic Information.

Diagnostic Mode 2 may only be entered from Diagnostic Mode 1 after it has been performed. Refer to How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 2 from Diagnostic Mode 1 within Power Sliding Door Diagnostic Information.

Diagnostic Mode 3 may only be entered from Diagnostic Mode 2 after it has been performed. Refer to How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 3 from Diagnostic Mode 2 within Power Sliding Door Diagnostic Information.

The diagnostic modes can only be entered in order.


How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 1
Diagnostic Mode 1 sounds the DTCs through the rear sliding door alarm. Enter Diagnostic Mode 1 by performing the following procedure:

Turn off the power sliding door on/off switch (located on the interior lamp and multi-function switch).
Close the sliding door manually. Ensure that the PSD is in the latched position.
Press and hold the power sliding door open/close switch in the overhead console (located on the interior lamp and multi-function switch).
While holding the power sliding door open/close switch, quickly cycle power sliding door on/off switch until Diagnostic Mode 1 is entered (a minimum of 10 cycles). The power sliding door alarm will sound for 3.2 seconds upon entering Diagnostic Mode 1.
After entering Diagnostic Mode 1, leave the power sliding door on/off switch on.
Release the power sliding door open/close switch.
Upon entering Diagnostic Mode 1, the following actions occur:

• The rear sliding door alarm sounds for 3.2 seconds. This indicates that the Diagnostic Mode 1 is active.

• The rear side door actuator control module sounds any DTCs stored.

• A DTC consists of a 2 digit code. For example, DTC 12 has the following sequence: buzz, pause, buzz, buzz, long pause. Then repeats the DTC.

• The rear side door actuator control module repeats the same DTC 3 times before proceeding to the next DTC.

• The rear side actuator control module sounds DTC 12 when no faults are present.

• DTCs will continue to sound until there is an exit from diagnostics or going into Diagnostic Mode 2.

• Write down all DTCs stored. The rear side door actuator control module erases DTCs upon exiting of the diagnostics.

If you want to exit diagnostics after Diagnostic Mode 1 has been completed, refer to How to Exit Diagnostics within Power Sliding Door Diagnostic Information. If you want to perform Diagnostic Mode 2, do not exit Diagnostic Mode 1. Refer to How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 2 within Power Sliding Door Diagnostic Information for the procedure.

Important: If any DTCs are stored in memory (except DTC 12), refer to the appropriate DTC table for diagnosis.



How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 2
Diagnostic Mode 2 inspects the integrity of the following inputs:

• The power sliding door on/off switch.

• The power sliding door open/close switch (overhead console).

• The power sliding door open/close switch (right B-pillar).

• The keyless entry system transmitter PSD open/close command.

• The PARK position of the transaxle range switch.

• The PSD detent switch.

• The ignition position for regular wheel base only.

Enter Diagnostic Mode 2 by performing the following procedure:

Ensure that the PSD is in Diagnostic Mode 1. Refer to How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 1 within Power Sliding Door Diagnostic Information.
Press and hold the power sliding door open/close switch (the overhead console or the right B-pillar) for 4 seconds. The rear sliding door alarm sounds for 3.2 seconds twice, indicating that Diagnostic Mode 2 is active.
Release the power sliding door open/close switch.
Important: When checking the detent switch circuit, the PSD alarm will sound for detent switch at ground potential, and will not sound if circuit is not at ground potential. It will not toggle with activation of other inputs.


During the Diagnostic Mode 2, the rear sliding door alarm toggles between on and off upon the activation of the following inputs:

Shifting the transaxle in and out of PARK.
Pressing the PSD open/close button on the keyless entry transmitter.
Cycling the ignition switch.
Cycling the power sliding door open/close switch (right B-pillar). Do not hold the open/close switch for more than 4 seconds because you will enter Diagnostic Mode 3.
Inspect the PSD detent switch with the following procedure:
- Slightly pull the sliding door handle with the sliding door closed, unlocked and the child lock disengaged. The rear sliding door alarm toggles on and off when pulling the door handle.

- Open the sliding door manually past the ajar position (secondary latch). The rear sliding door alarm toggles on and off for as long as the sliding door remains open and the right door lock switch plate plungers and pads are in contact.

- Move the sliding door manually from the open to the ajar position. The rear sliding door alarm toggles on and off when the sliding door is in the ajar position.

- Move the sliding door manually from the ajar position to the closed (primary latch) position. The rear sliding door alarm toggles on and off when the sliding door moves between the ajar and the closed positions.

If the rear sliding door alarm does not sound upon the activation of one of these inputs, this indicates a faulty switch or a faulty circuit from that device to the rear side door actuator control module.

If you want to exit diagnostics after Diagnostic Mode 2 has been completed, refer to How to Exit Diagnostics within Power Sliding Door Diagnostic Information.

If you want to perform the Diagnostic Mode 3, do not exit Diagnostic Mode 2; refer to How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 3 within Power Sliding Door Diagnostic Information for the procedure.


How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 3
Diagnostic Mode 3 tests the power sliding door unlatch actuator.

Enter Diagnostic Mode 3 by performing the following procedure:

Ensure that the PSD is in Diagnostic Mode 2. If not, refer to How to Enter Diagnostic Mode 2 within Power Sliding Door Diagnostic Information.
Press and hold the power sliding door open/close switch (the overhead console or the right B-pillar) for 4 seconds. The rear sliding door alarm will sound while holding the switch.
The rear sliding door alarm pauses, then sounds for 3.2 seconds 3 times indicating that the Diagnostic Mode 3 is active.
Release the power sliding door open/close switch after entering Diagnostic Mode 3.
In order to test the operation of the power sliding door unlatch actuator, perform the following procedure:

Ensure that the sliding door is closed (fully latched).
Ensure that the sliding door is unlocked and the child lock is disabled.
Press then release either power sliding door open/close switch (the overhead console or the right B-pillar). The rear side door actuator control module performs the following actions when you press the open/close switch:
- Energizes the power sliding door unlatch actuator.

- Briefly sounds the rear sliding door alarm.

- Unlatches the sliding door past the door ajar position.

Cycling (pressing and releasing) either the power sliding door open/close switch (the overhead console or the right B-pillar) again repeats the procedure as long as the right door lock switch plate plungers and pads remain in contact.

If you want to exit diagnostics after Diagnostic Mode 3 has been completed, refer to How to Exit Diagnostics within Power Sliding Door Diagnostic Information for the procedure. If you want to perform Diagnostic Mode 1, do not exit Diagnostic Mode 3; refer to How to Return to Diagnostic Mode 1 from Diagnostic Mode 3 within Power Sliding Door Diagnostic Information for the procedure.


How to Return to Diagnostic Mode 1 from Diagnostic Mode 3
Return to Diagnostic Mode 1 from Diagnostic Mode 3 by performing the following procedure:

Press and hold the power sliding door open/close switch (the overhead console or the right B-pillar) for 4 seconds.
Release the power sliding door open/close switch after entering Diagnostic Mode 1.
Important: Exiting from diagnostics will erase all DTCs.



How to Exit Diagnostics
Exit diagnostics by performing the following procedure:

Turn the power sliding door on/off switch off for at least 10 seconds.
Re-initialize the PSD. Refer to Power Sliding Door (PSD) Re-Initialization .


Power Sliding Door (PSD) Opening Symptoms
Condition
Cause
Action

The power sliding door does not power unlatch/open when the open/close switch is pressed. The door may power open if the door is manually unlatched.
The following conditions may prevent the unlatch actuator from activating:

• Circuit 750 and/or circuit 2910 is open.

• The unlatch actuator is defective.

The following conditions may prevent the unlatch actuator and rod from unlatching or opening the door:

• The sliding door is locked.

• The front rod adjustment is too long.

• The unlatch actuator is defective.
Perform the Diagnostic Mode 3. Refer to Diagnostic Modes in Power Sliding Door (PSD) Diagnostic Information . Perform the indicated corrective action.
Complete one of the following actions:
- Unlock the door.

- Adjust the front rod. Refer to Lock Rod Adjustment - Sliding Door .

- Perform the Diagnostic Mode 3. Refer to Diagnostic Modes in Power Sliding Door (PSD) Diagnostic Information . Perform the indicated corrective action.

The following conditions exist:

• The PSD unlatches but does not power open when you press the open/close switch.

• The PSD does not power open if you move the door manually.
There is an electrical malfunction within the PSD system.
Refer to Power Sliding Door (PSD) Diagnostic System Check .

One of the following conditions exists:

• The PSD unlatches but does not power open when you press the open/close switch. The PSD power opens if you move the door manually.

• The PSD does not power open when you activate the handle. The PSD power opens when you move the door manually.
• There is a malfunction in the detent switch circuit.

• The door lock rod is out of adjustment.

• An electric noise is present.
• Adjust the door lock rods. Refer to Lock Rod Adjustment - Sliding Door .

• Repair the electric noise:

- Verify that the pads and plungers are securely attached to the body and the door. Replace the pouch fastener, as needed.

- Inspect for corrosion, water entry, and dirty or sticking plungers. Clean or replace the plungers as needed.

- Inspect the ground circuits.

- Inspect the detent switch. Replace the detent switch as needed. Refer to Rear Latch Detent Switch - Power Sliding Door.

If these steps do not correct the condition, refer to Power Sliding Door (PSD) Diagnostic System Check .

The PSD reverses or stops during a power opening.
• There is a mechanical obstruction.

• The cable tension is incorrect.
Complete the following steps in order to clear the mechanical obstruction as needed:
- Remove any foreign objects. Clean or replace the track, as needed.

- Inspect the roller brackets for binding. Adjust the lower track. Use lithium grease in order to lubricate the lower track at the bend.

- Inspect the roller brackets for wear. Replace the brackets as needed.

Adjust the cable tension. Refer to Cable Tension Adjustment - Sliding Door (Regular Method) for regular method or Cable Tension Adjustment - Sliding Door (Alternate Method) for atlernate method in Doors.
If these steps do not correct the condition, refer to Power Sliding Door (PSD) Diagnostic System Check .

The sliding door does not remain open when the vehicle is on a hill (incline or decline).
• The cable tension is incorrect.

• The hold open system is faulty.
• Adjust the cable tension. Refer to Cable Tension Adjustment - Sliding Door (Regular Method) for regular method or Cable Tension Adjustment - Sliding Door (Alternate Method) for atlernate method in Doors.

• Adjust, clean, or replace the hold open spring/retainer.

If these steps do not correct the condition, refer to Power Sliding Door (PSD) Diagnostic System Check .

Do you happen to have the part of the manual that explains the cable tension adjustment? All of the other checks were fine. I am sure I am dealing with a mechanical problem. And the door is very stiff to open manually.

Thanks for the instructions it made more sense than the other set I had and I got into diag. mode that way.

Rear Side Door Actuator Cable Tension Adjustment (Regular Method)
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
Remove the right rear quarter lower trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter - Right in Interior Trim.



Position the center roller bracket at the front of the track. Ensure that the bracket is 25 mm (1 in) from the forward radius and that the cable tension slot is accessible in the window located on the Power Sliding Door (PSD) motor clutch assembly.
Important: Use only a 6-point 14 mm socket on the adjusting nut. The adjusting nut requires very little torque to achieve proper cable tension. DO NOT exceed 20 N·m of torque on the adjuster nut. Use of additional torque beyond 20 N·m may damage the adjuster nut. If the adjuster nut rounds, refer to Rear Side Door Actuator Cable Tension Adjustment .

Insert a 9 mm (3/8 in) drill bit into the tension slot on the actuator motor.
Push in and turn the 14 mm cable adjuster nut (1) counterclockwise until the tensioner pins are located between both the front and rear double blocks. The blocks are marked on the PSD module housing. This action adjust the cable tension. If the adjuster nut rounds, refer to Rear Side Door Actuator Cable Tension Adjustment .
Remove the 9 mm (3/8 in) drill bit from the cable tension slot.
Operate the sliding door manually.
Verify that the tension is correct.
Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
Perform the reinitialization procedure. Refer to Power Sliding Door (PSD) Re-Initialization .
Place the jack in the storage compartment.
Close the storage compartment door.
Install the right rear quarter lower trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter - Right in Interior Trim.

Rear Side Door Actuator Cable Tension Adjustment (Alternate Method)
Remove the right rear quarter lower trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter - Right in Interior Trim.
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
Position the sliding door center roller bracket at the front of the track. Ensure that the bracket is 25 mm (1 in) away from the forward radius and that the cable tension adjuster nut is accessible in the adjuster window located on the Power Sliding Door motor clutch assembly.
Use 2 medium Phillips head screwdrivers in order to move the cable tension indicators to the uppermost portion of the tension indicating windows. Hold the tension indicators in place in order to reduce the amount of force that is required to turn the adjuster nut.



Insert the chuck end of a 9 mm (3/8 in) drill bit into the tensioning slot in the actuator motor.
Complete the following steps simultaneously until you feel resistance in the cable. Resistance indicates that the cable is taut:
• Grasp the tension adjusting nut with pliers.

• Push the nut inward.

• Turn the nut counterclockwise.

Release the inward pressure on the nut and allow the nut to lock into place.
Release the cable tension indicators.
Verify that the cable tension indicators are located between both the front and rear double blocks marked on the PSD module housing. The tension is acceptable if the indicators are slightly high but are touching the indicator marks. If the indicators are below the indicator marks, repeat step 6 through step 11 until you obtain enough tension. If the tension is too high, push in on the adjuster nut in order to release the tension, then repeat step 6 through step 11.
Operate the sliding door manually.
Position the door as described in step 5. Verify that the tension is correct. If the tension is incorrect , repeat Step 6 through step 11 until you obtain the correct tension.
Install the right rear quarter lower trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter - Right in Interior Trim.
Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
Perform the reinitialization procedure. Refer to Power Sliding Door (PSD) Re-Initialization .

My 97 wouldnt work at all, wouldnt program, followed the instructions on programming in the owners manual, ended up having to clean the door contacts before it would take and work again.

Read instruction on adjusting sliding door cable tension.
What marks do you line what up with?
There are two white lines and two yellow dots on module , no marks on adjusters.

I have a 2003 montana drivers side door is acting up.
The parts are located behind the interiors finish just behind the door.

There are two white lines and two yellow dots on module , no marks on adjusters.

I know this is a very old thread but I am hoping someone out there will be able to help me.

Last night I followed the diagnostics posted by Headnsouth. The only DTC was code 12 (which says all is well) and the only thing I found was that in diagnostic mode 2 the buzzer did not sound when I slightly pulled on the actual door handle (the detent switch) as well as when I closed the door after being ajar. I cleaned the contacts and the plungers and exited the diagnostic mode.

The door then worked (that is except when you manually start to open it by pulling on the door handle) for a half a day now it no longer works. It will try to unlatch but then it does not slide open. After this I got DTC 22 "Door Motion Error Sensed On Actuation" I understand that it is saying "Hey I unlatched the door but nothing happened" but what now? What does this code actually tell me? Is the motor going so it only works intermittently? Or is it something entirely different?
