Subwoofer questions..

I am buying a custom sub-box off ebay. I have an all stock system and i was wondering if i would need to change the headunit in order to hook an amp up to run some subs. I know people have hooked the amp to the rear speakers but i think that would give treble and bass and i dont want that coming out of my subs. Does anyone know if the stock unit has a sub output? What have you guys done to get around this problem? Thanks.. o yeah here is the sub-box pretty sweet huh??? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=38647

Re: Subwoofer questions..

That can be done but you would need a crossover or an amp with a crossover to control how much treble and bass you want coming out of the sub

Re: Subwoofer questions..

So if i got an amp with a crossover i could hook it directly to the rear speaker and just turn down the treble and it would be just like having a sub output?

I love that box, thanks for the idea I'm gonna try to get one like that built that will hold 12's. I think it would be better to get another radio with preamp outputs than to hook up the amp through speaker wires. I'd also buy another smaller amp for the stock speakers and a 2 or 3 way crossover, but you'd also have to get another cd changer. thinking about it some more, do you have to move the changer to put the box in?
I guess it just depends on how much money you want to spend.

Re: Subwoofer questions..

Hi this is only a suggestion: I consider my self, to be to some degree, a audio file. Along the way I found out that bass is felt more than it's heard. With this in mind I installed transducers (speakers with out the paper or polly or what ever it takes to move allot of air) under my home theater seating. I zip tied them right to the springs of the seats. I then wired them to a comparably small sub woofer amp with a adjustable crossover. They make the same set up for cars. The sub/amp is plugged into the preamp out. I'm not sure if the 3k's stock radio has these preamp out's. If someone out there knows this, please get back to us through this thread, thanks. When I changed out my stereo in my daily driver I made sure the stereo had these preamp outputs. Installed the rest and now I don't get stopped by the noise police. If you don't have these police in your town just give it time. These transducers I speak of can be found @ www.smarthome.com, There called BASE SHAKER's I bought my first pair for $86 there up to $110 now I'd get 2 pair and mount one under each seat and one on the back (about shoulder blade high) on the inside of each seat. You can find the 100to200 watt amp/w adjustable cross over just about any where/ $100to150
