5-speed transmission maintenance
My 2007 4cyl has the 5-speed FNR5 transmission, looks like it calls for special tranny fluid, Ford# XT-9-QMM5. Done some looking online and can't seem to find any equivelant after-market fluids. Anybody know
what's available or equivelant? Tranny filter might be a dealer item also, #FT164.

Re: 5-speed transmission maintenance
MazdaV or MV not to be confused with MerconV is equivalent to XT-9-QMM5. The charts say Valvoline Max Life ATF can be used with your car, but it was also equivalent to every other car on the chart. I would stay away from it. Either the Ford or the Mazda will work. You could call and get the best price of the two. Both are probably pretty steep. The filter if like most filters on AT's is just a screen to keep the bigger bits of sediment from being sucked into the pump. It could be checked and reused.

Re: 5-speed transmission maintenance
if it is not mercon v, or mercon sp, it is a lifetime fluid and does not need to be changed. if you drain it with out talking to the dealer, you could be talking about a 1000 dollar trans service.

Re: 5-speed transmission maintenance
Thanks for the replies guys, was just trying to think ahead and plan some maintenance. Many dealers want to flush everything, tranny, power steering, . . . 30K tranny fluid changes are recommended for the windstar. The generic ford maintenance schedule book that came with the car said to consult dealer for tranny info. Looking at owner's manual, the fuel filter must be internal to fuel tank and not serviceable either.

Re: 5-speed transmission maintenance
i flushed the fluid @ 50k miles on my '08 S by disconnecting the cooler return line, right in front of the driver's side wheel well.
used amsoil ATF fluid. that was 8k miles ago. you won't want to pull the trans pan- it's not a reusable gasket. to my knowledge there is not a replaceable filter within. |
