really you need a 350 in it those 307s was oil burners after awhile. but if you want to keep it stock and you rebuild the 307 there good 4 awhile. but you couldn't of pick one of the best cars to get a hold of. and all depends if you going to rebuild the whole motor if so call autozone to see what a kit would cost it don't mean you have to get those parts for it there.

Re: 69 chevelle

The 307 was and still is a SHIT engine. Get a 350....Parts are actually cheaper ....they are so plentiful that the competition drives costs down. Chevrolet has been making the 350 for over 40 years where-as the 307 was only made for a couple years...YOU DO THE MATH!!! The 307 has a life of about 30 thousand miles before oil cavitation and starvation problems show up. A 350 Chevy can go 200 thousand with minor attention. There is a good reason why Chevy only made that 307 motor for a short period of time.

Re: 69 chevelle

As a side note...the 350 will not only obviously have more horse power than the 307, but it will also have BETTER gas milage!!! It all has to do with the rodXstroke ratio. Google that to learn more. basically it comes down to car manufactures are trying to build cars for gas milage while others want power, however Chevy came up with the PERFECT balance of both. and that IS the 350 which every one is trying to replicate.
