can somebody tell me why my horn keeps going off on my 99 isuzu rodeo

can somebody tell me why my horn keeps going off on my 99 isuzu rodeo. I took it to my mechanic and he told me the driver sideairbad went bad and that is why my horn kept going off in the middle of the night for no reason. So i replaced the driver side air bag, but now it still goes off in the middle of the night again sometimes it stops if i honk the horn. Any help would be very appricated.

thanks you

check the switch under the hood on the pass side near the firewall it is covered by a rubber boot sometimes needs tweaking pull up on the bracket it is mounted to so that it will lift and make proper contact with the hood closed

that would cause just the horn to go off at weird times and it is constant. i know it is not the alarm going off. the last time i took it to my mechanic he told me the air bag was defective and that what was causing it to happen and it stopped for a couple of months and than it started going off again

Contaction and expansion.

as it gets colder at night the pin can then loose contact to the pannel and then alarm goes off.

Try unplugging the alarm horn and see if that stops it, then you will know. The alarm system uses a different horn then the one for 'driving'. Its located on the passenger inner fender (in the engine compartment) behind the ABS module.

Re: can somebody tell me why my horn keeps going off on my 99 isuzu rodeo

I have the same problem on my '98. Ryan, it's definitely not the alarm. This is a constant tone from the Horn that only pulling the horn fuse will stop, So i drive without a horn. I have tried checking all the wiring from the switch to the horn, suspecting a short that was grounding out and causing it, but no luck. I even pulled the steering wheel and cleaned all contact points to try and find a problem there (dangerous with the airbag, I know). But it will randomly go off in the middle of the night with a constant tone form the horn (not the alarm) and pressing the horn on the wheel doesn't stop it anymore. Only pulling the fuse from inside the dash in your underwear while freezing your nuts off will do it. The nice thing is, with the dome light on and the horn blaring like crazy, all the neighbors get to see you shiver . . .

Anyone have a fix for this--I'm stumped and it's making me crazy!

Cool Re: can somebody tell me why my horn keeps going off on my 99 isuzu rodeo

I'm going through this exact same problem with my 99' Rodeo right now. I took it to the Isuzu dealership and they said I will need some new part that is under the steering wheel and airbag? I was gettinga new air conditioning system and wasn't willing to drop anymore money at the time, the AC system cost and arm & leg. I've resulted to pulling the fuse under the hood.

I hope someone can offer a do it yourself fixit WITH PICTURES. I really would like to know how to remove the cover off the steering wheel.

Re: can somebody tell me why my horn keeps going off on my 99 isuzu rodeo

Rodeovyn, if you can ID the part positively from the dealer (a part number would be great) then we can order it from St. Charles Isuzu. I have had the steering wheel apart trying to fix this, so know that it can be removed. Be afraid of the airbag, but with the exercise of extreme caution and disabling it as much as possible prior to opening the wheel, this could be the fix we are looking for! Let me know, even PM me with that part. Once I get it and get the wheel off and the part replaced, I can post a write up (with pics, I hope) and get this fixed. Did the dealer mention if it was a common problem at all?

Re: can somebody tell me why my horn keeps going off on my 99 isuzu rodeo

I never did--and then the car was totalled just before Thanksgiving. The only solution was to pull the horn fuse and simply not have a beep when I set the alarm or a horn at all.
