Talking Why are Mustangs under saleen?

Not to be mean or a smart ass, but saleen doesnt make mustangs, they just make parts to make them go faster. Its not just saleen, there are lots of companys that do it (example STI WRX or HKS skyline), to me it just doesnt make sense. A mustang will always be a ford ( a wrx will always be a subaru, a skyline will always be a nissan), just with saleen peformance parts.:machinegu :aug2: :flamer: :rocket:

I do not know anything about Saleen Mustangs, but I can see why they are under Saleen. Saleen modifies Mustangs more than any other company and they come out with their own Mustang model every year (I think). Can some back me up on this?

Saleen in equal to Shelby back in the day. Saleen in one of the biggest aftermarket manufactures for the mustang. Steve Saleen buys stripped down Mustang GT's and goes nuts modifying the car. He works though Ford and sells his cars a privileged dealerships as "Saleens." He kinda picks up where Ford leaves off, so the Mustang can be sold cheaper though Ford, but if someone wants one with all the bells and whistles the go to the aftermarket. There are other aftermarket manufactures that do the same thing as Saleen. Roush, Kenny Brown, Steeda, and a few I'm missing.

Oh, and Saleen use to modify Explorers too, but I belive stopped that a while ago.

You are not getting the point. If I put an after market saleen part on a focus does that mean I can call it a saleen focus. You said it yourself saleen uses stock ford mustangs and just puts aftermarket parts on it. I dont see any of those other after market names you said on here with a mustang section. Heck if you want to start putting mustangs under all these aftermarket names you should at least start with SVT.

Technically Saleen should be under Mustang, and I can see that, as well as the other companies I mentioned. But I also see how it can be put as its own category. Saleen does manufacture its own car, the S7. That's probably why it has its own category. Saleen is also pretty independent from other companies, well enough to have its own category, that's what I was trying to get at. I'm not saying its right, nor wrong, just trying to make points.

Saleen has it's own section because they pretty much are making full cars and selling them. They have Mustangs, S7, and for a while there were explorers. So that is why they probably got thier own section. But I can also see why you feel it shouldn't. It's a decision AF made.

why is it under saleen, b/c it has its own insurance rate, it is stated as a saleen mustang on the title, and it is numbered. It is a mustang, but it is also a saleen. Some people would bitch if you gave them money. If you have a problem with it why dont you ask them to start up a jackass forum, and you can moderate it.

The earlier Saleen's were still Ford Mustang's with a Saleen package. In 1994 or 1996, I forget what year, Mustang's modified by Saleen ceased to be "Ford" Mustang's. Saleen was actually considered a manufacturer due to the extensive modification.

I believe it was 96, at least that's the year Saleen introduced the S281 Cobra.

Good point, maybe I should put a saleen decal on my truck and call it a saleen s-10 but then again........ why isn't saleen under ford?

Just read the posts before yours. Saleen has it's own section because AF wants it to, so just leave it at that, I doubt any of you (besides mods) can change anything about it, leave it be a just post about the pros&cons of saleen mustangs.

May I also suggest lingenfelter gets his own category as well?

Re: Why are Mustangs under saleen?

Actually there are now "Saleen Focus" and even "Roush Focus". Which is an embarassment to Roush and Saleen cuz i think the Focus is crap
