Removal of EGR valve 1995 CV

I need to replace my EGR valve on my 1995 CV 4.6 engine. It is located near the fire wall. I removed everything I possibly could so that I could get at the nut which is on the EGR pipe that connects to the manifold. The nut ( approximately 1" in diameter ) needs to be loosened so that I can remove the pipe from it and then take the 2 smaller nuts off which fasten the EGR valve to the manifold.
The problem I am having is that I cannot get a wrench on the nut and turn it because there is NO ROOM at all to move the wrench in order to loosen the nut.
Is there some special wrench or tool that is needed to do this.
I can't believe that they would design ANYTHING like this.
If I had to guess, I would say that the government had something to do with the design! :-)

Re: Removal of EGR valve 1995 CV

Hi dskap, and welcome to the forum. I'm not familiar with your vehicle so I don't know if this will be of any help but this is the procedure from the Ford manual for the '95 Crown Vic - I put it on a webpage to save making a mess of your thread. If you want to see any of the other procedures which it refers to, just let me know.

As I said though, I'm not familiar with the Crown Vic so if anybody has actually done the job and knows what the secret is then please enlighten us.

I believe the nut size is just over an inch. See if you can dind what is called a crows foot that is the correct size. Then use a ratchet and extension to loosen the nut.
