Salvage Title

What do you guys think about Hail Damage Salvage Title cars. Im looking at a white 99 ex coupe for a sweet price. The pictures of it look good and I'm going to see it in person later. The guy claims that the engine works perfect and the car has really low mileage. (I currently have a 96 dx sedan ) Any advice greatly appreciated

hail damage? as in the car is dented up all to piss? any glass left on it? Can you do body work?

if you can get it cheap, and you can fix the dings, (assuming they haven't already been fixed hence the new title) go for it. gonna be A WHOLE LOTTA WORK, but....could be worth it.

Hail damage can be repaired by a paintless dent repair tech. I wouldn't pay more than 1/4 value for the car. The car will always have a salvage title, good luck selling or tradind in.

Have you looked at this yet, or got it ?
Has it been repaired yet, or was it being sold damaged.
As one who is in ins, I can tell you for sure salvage on that year a car goes for about 20% when it left the ins company.

Hail damage DOES total the car out in some cases.

Obviously you have never seen major hail damage when all body panel are completely dented along with all windows shattered.

Totalled means - the repairs cost more than the car is worth or the car is unrepairable

The car was repaired when I saw it and they did a good job. I saw pictures of it before they fixed it up and it looked bad. I guess there is some hail out there that is lethal to your car - sux if you dont have a garage Anyways, the motor was filthy and neglected so I'm still looking

Now in Sparq's defense, he may have a point. YES, hail can damage a car enough to total it out. However, as was stated, when an insurance company totals a car, it is because the damage repair cost exceeds the car's value. We don't know what the extent of the hail damage was, or, for that matter, what the condition of the car was before the hail damage.

I could have been a gorgeous car with low miles and well maintained, and victim to one wompass hail storm.

Or it could've been a waining honda, somewhere around 85K miles and up, and as we all know, needing a lot of things replaced, (timing belt, CV boots/joints, clutch, etc.) and a small ammount of hail damage could have totaled it.

It's a weighted decision, and without more info about the car and the damage caused, I don't believe that any of us can make the call. So, DizzyDy, make an informed judgement based on the car's worth and the damage caused and what they are asking for it, baring in mind the salvage title on it.

1 more thing to add about salvage titles in general :: Insurance companies will NOT give full coverage.
