Car won't start
So I've got a problem, winters knocking on the door and my car just stops starting. Its a Pontiac Sunfire 99 and its a manual. So I go to get in it yesterday and i turn the key, all my accesories come on and everything, but when i turn it to start it nothing happens. No click no crank no nothing. My batteries not dead or anything like that so I don't know what the hells going on. Its like my car thinks my clutch isn't pushed in or something so its keeping itself from starting... any ideas... I dont wanna drive my moped through a blizzard. Thanks Kurt

Really? sob... i just replaced the alternator last week, that blows... is there a way i can test to make sure? Should I mention that this happened three months ago? Just one time it wouldnt start and then it worked ever since then until the last two days... exact same thing

All right, i finally found the time to look at my car and i checked the starter out and all the wires going to it are all connected and none of them look corroded. So i dont know what else could be a matter. But i was thinking, I did replace the alternator a few weeks ago and do you think that this could have something to do with that cable that plugs in to the back of the alternator? Like maybe I didnt get it on good enough? Any advice would help me a lot. Thanks.

Alternator, battery, and starter are all tough to troubleshoot. Sometimes a bad starter will draw too much amperage and stress a battery and alternator. A bad alternator can fry a battery, and a bad battery can fry an alternator. Its not uncommon for one to affect another.
If you didn't get the wire on good enough (which is doubtful) then the alternator wouldn't charge the battery, but the only way that should affect the starter is if its too dead to operate it. If that were the case you would have very weak lights, radio, etc. The two next things I would check are the starter and the wiring. Use a test light or voltage meter to test and make sure that the wire at the starter is getting 12v when you turn the key to the start position. If it is, then I suspect the starter.
