Transmission issues

My 1995 Isuzu Trooper SOHC 3.2 Liter is having some transmission issues. It has 193,000 miles on it, but I don't drive it too rough. The rear shocks need to be replaced as well so don't know if this has anything to do with it, due to excessive hard bumps. The other day my transmission light began flashing. Thinking it was my alternater, I proceeded to back up. Reverse worked fine. Then I put it into drive and it sluggishly moved even with flooring it. So I stopped tried 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, they all worked fine, but not drive. Check transmission light keeps on flashing. Not driving it now to keep from further damage. Can anyone give me an idea of what to do without spending a fortune. Thanks.

Re: Transmission issues

The check trans light is flashing for a reason. Have you checked to see for any error codes stored in the ECM ?
Have you checked the transmission fluid ?

Re: Transmission issues

I have checked the tranny fluid, but I haven't checked the codes yet, but I don't have an OBD I to check it with.

Re: Transmission issues

On most OBD-I vehicles you can get the CEL to blink the codes using a specific procedure (short some pins on a connector, turn Ign sw, etc). I don't know what the procedure is for yours, you may be able to find it by Searching.

Re: Transmission issues

The troopa sat for two weeks and the power issue resolved itself, but after the fact there was a loose connection of some sort of large plug on the right side of the tranny, which I fixed with some the universal fix it all. Duct tape. Thank you oh holy Duct tape.
