Etcetra

Today, I passed a Cadillac that had an "ETC" emblem on the right of the back. On the left was a usual "32vNorthstar" badge. What was this?

As funny as it would be if it were true, I do not believe that what I saw could possibly be named a Cadillac Etcetra. :hehe: :flash: :hehehe:

You weren't seeing things, ETC stands for Eldorado Touring Coupe. An unfortunate acronymn.

Thanks; they's stupid.

Now I'll be looking for a "Cadillac Whatever."

In my 1996 buyers guide,it says "please dont call it etcetera". But the acronym is stupid, so they're going to quit production.
Happy now?

ETC package

Ladies and gents, I would not mock the ETC Eldorado. It's called welcome to a more performance tuned 4.6L Northstar. Try enjoying 300 horsepower, and 295 ft-lb of Cadillac moving engine, on a more perfomance inclined, (though still Cadillac) suspension, a different gearing with more power in the passing ranges, and a top speed of 150 mph stock. The ETC itself is an acronym meaning Edorado Touring Coupe. As I said, a more powerful version of the Eldo. Very fast, and what my base now emulates power wise.

Unfortuantely, the plug is being pulled on the Eldorado after a 50 year ride. Eldorado generated a lot of firsts for GM and to some degree for the industry in general.
When the first Eldorado rolled off the assembly line in 1953, it had a wrap around windshield. That was quite a statement.

(Of course there were two other cousins of the Eldorado that had the same feature that year, the Oldsmobile Fiesta and the Buick Century)

In 1956 the Eldorado Brougham was introduced to the world. A hand built car with all kinds of creature comforts such as power memory seats, power decklid, perfume bottle and make up in the glove box as well as a set of silver tumblers. It had an air controlled suspension and a 392 HP motor with three 2BBL carbs.
This exclusive car sold for $12,000 in 1956 when you could buy a Caddy limo for about $8000. The last EB to roll out was a Pinin Farina bodied one in 1961.

In 1967 the first front wheel drive Cadillac was an Eldorado. It had a 429 ci motor that year, and then went to the 472 and 500 thereafter. Eldorado redefined the personal luxury car segment, one that was started by Lincoln in the late 30's with the Zephyr.
