Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions
I know this is a broad question, but i want to know what you guys think is the best tuner car on the market right now. There are a lot of choices to pick from so, consider the criteria listed and let me know what you think is the best to pick from.
---This all stemmed from a discussion i had with friends...i want to see what others think---- CRITERIA FOR DECISION 1. Price/Availability 2. Possible swaps (if needed or applicable) 3. Aftermarket following and response to modification (turbo or NA) 4. Overall value 5. Fun-to-drive factor 6. Coolness/Uniqueness of the car 7. Ease of modification 8. Reliability 9. Insurance Rates/Gas mileage/General driveability --i know i forgot a lot of cars...add those under "other"

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions
I'd say the Mazdaspeed3. Powerful, turbo I4, and not very expensive. I like the VW GTI as well, but its just not quite up with the Mazdaspeed in terms of power.

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions
I do like the new MazdaSpeed3. It is a nice little hatch with a decent amount of power stock. In one of the newer editions of Motor Trend, they put the MazdaSpeed3 against the WRX and the Mazda won overall. It runs a respectable 14.3 second 1/4 mile which could drop by .5 sec w/ a CAI and slicks...

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions
I would have to go with the new GTI. I drove one and it was a pretty nice car. It was just a little pricey for me. If I made another 150 a month than I would likely have gotten it.

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions
Even though i'm sure its hard for others to believe me when i say this....i did look at this objectively and decided that i still find my Honda/Acura to be the best choice overall. I have a lot of bias going into that, even as much as i tried not to be. I"m sure its more of an ignorance of most other products really.
I see that my GSR takes well to modification. The stock engine is resiliant and makes a lot of power if treated correctly. The aftermarket following is enormous and parts are relatively abundant. Most of my reasoning stands behind numerous turbo cars like this....stock internal 10:1 compression turbo B series Hondas. http://forums.evans-tuning.com/viewtopic.php?t=4048 http://forums.evans-tuning.com/viewtopic.php?t=3957 http://forums.evans-tuning.com/viewtopic.php?t=2607 http://forums.evans-tuning.com/viewtopic.php?t=4017 http://forums.evans-tuning.com/viewtopic.php?t=3827 http://forums.evans-tuning.com/viewtopic.php?t=4065 http://forums.evans-tuning.com/viewtopic.php?t=3798

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions
does anyone know if Ford are selling Motorsport packaages for the Focus?
If i recall correctly, for the previous Ford Focus RS, they had essentially off the shelf packages that ranged from single "basic tuning" parts, to stage 1-3 kits to a full blown 4wd widebody V8 conversion. not cheap but the prospect of building your own wrc car is quite cool.

Having that opinion has really gotten me into a few heated arguments in the past though...i know that Honda makes great FWD cars with tons of potential, even on the stock engines, but i wanted to see if i was way off base or if my thoughts/opinions were justified. Just based off of my own personal car i know that Hondas are easy to turbo, not overly expensive to boost or maintain and that they make great power. Mainly i have problems with SRT4 drivers who dont believe that my car can be fast or make power....

MKV VW GTI. MS3 is not on par though in terms of quality interior wise.

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions
i'm not familiar w/ the engine layout of the MS3, but if the VW is the same as an Audi A4 1.8T, i'm going to have to disagree w/ it being the best choice. The Audi has no room for any kind of modification whereas under the hood of my GSR i have all the room i need to mount a turbo and fit an EL manifold w/ a 3 or 4" dp....just a thought. I'm not familiar w/ the MS3 or VW so i could be way off....

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions
Well i actually have a buddy w/ an 01 A4T, but i dont like it...there is no room at all under the hood to work on the car. I'm sure its nice to be able to just slap a turbo on the car because its already designed for it though. I was actually considering buying one, but decided that i would NEVER want to work on it...

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions
1. integra, i think this is the best all around. it looks pretty good, its got decent power, handles exceptionally and has typical honda reliability and aftermarket.
2. cobalt ss, this car has great all around performance, as can be seen in novembers car and driver where it outlaps the miata, gti, civic si, and mustang gt. plus the ecotec is known to be able to acheive great power. looks are a little sedated but i like them. 3. celica gt-s, with performance rivaling the integra, this car is pretty good in that dept. it looks good, especially when equipped with the action package. the car is pretty reliable as well. the real downsides though are the relativeley small aftermarket compared to the integra and not much low end power. 4. acura rsx, its alot like the integra but i personally dont dig the looks. 5. srt-4, its the fastest of the bunch, but idk if it could keep up on a track(it might im really not sure at all though). looks are hit and miss. downsides are that its a 4 door and about as reliable as predicting lightning strikes. my 2 cents.

Re: Favorite FWD Tuner car....i want opinions
^^I agree the Integra is best.../thread
but honestly, those are all good points. The RSX has a lot of potential, but it is expensive too (at least in comparison to the other cars on the list).
