Cavalier replacent power window motor doesn't work
Hi, I need some help figuring out an issue in our 2001 Cavalier.
The passenger window will go down but not up. When you activate the up command on the power window switch you can hear a faint sound in the window motor but no movement. I checked the electrical connector to the motor with a test light in case the switch is going bad. Both up and down on the power window switch lights up the tester. I purchased an aftermarket power window motor and hooked it up to the electrical connector. It is doing the same thing as the OEM motor. Could the replacement be bad? I'm stumped on this one. |

Re: Cavalier replacent power window motor doesn't work
Are you testing the voltage to the motor (from the switch) while the motor is connected? To do so you will need to back-probe the electrical connector at the switch or motor. If the switch has failing contacts it may show voltage with the motor disconnected since there is no load, but when forced to pass current the voltage may drop to nearly nothing.

Re: Cavalier replacent power window motor doesn't work
Blue Bowtie, thanks for helping.
I used a simple test light that looks like a screwdriver handle with ice pick point. I had removed the elec connector from the motor and stuck the tester probe directly on the contacts. I'm going to try and obtain a voltage tester and go from there. If it turns out to be the switch, I may just change the motor anyways. From what I've read, those motors have a history of failing. |

I measured voltage at the power window connector.
Voltage measured at 12.16 for both up and down switch positions. Not sure what to do next. |
