roberthenry, i found out through http://www.gmpartsdirect.com that your 1997 Buick Riveria has the part number 25678792. GM assigns a particular part number that can work for different GM models. As long as the part number of the remote matches with your car, then it will work. If you call your local GM dealership, they should come up with the same part number i found out through the above website. On their website they are selling it brand new for $42.37. Now, on ebay i found a remote with item number 1808795183, currrently selling for $20.00 as of Sat. Mar 2 2:55 EST. Make sure u put in a search under ITEM NUMBER in ebay to find this particular remote. It should work fine on your car. I have bought remotes through ebay for my car and have had no problems with them, including a bargain in price versus www.gmpartsdirect.com and local gm dealership.

tireburner, i looked it the trunk and im assuming the "harness" is a black circular think to hold wires running through the trunk. Well, i grounded single pin plug thats running through a small rectangular box and nothing happened. Is their an easier way to program it such as grounding the pins located at the data link connector. I grounded the data link connector in the olds 88 a few months ago from your instructions and it worked fine.

tireburner, Im assuming I can use teh fused jumper wire that I used on my other car before right? Im grounding the single wire plug with the fused jumper wire?

I checked two different books, one of which is GM's factory service manual, both are stating the same thing. (directions as posted) The program wire does not go up to the data link connector on this vehicle.

Just to verify 97 Lumina?

I looked at both the 96 and 98 too to make sure that there was no difference... 96 97 98 all the same.

The description you gave me of the single wire in a rectangular shaped plug sounds correct. Make sure you have a clean ground you are attaching it to. Try the unpainted bar at the trunk latch for ground, or wrap a piece of wire around the negative battery terminal

tireburner, am I supposed to run both connections of the program jumper into the rectangular shaped plug? Also, do I need to run a "different wire" for the unpainted bar at the trunk latch or negative battery terminal? In other words have a total of 2 different wires? Sorry, Im having a hard time programming it for this car.

One end of the fused jumper to the rectangular plug. The other end of the jumper to ground... be it directly to the negative post on the battery, the latch mechanizm, or non painted metal.

No worries, I deal with people who couldn't assemble a push broom, this is non-stressful, and easy!!

thanks tireburner, i went ahead and got a metal coathanger. I pushed on side into the rectangular box and the other side on the metal thing at the edge of the trunk and BINGO it started locking and unlocking. My problem was that I was not grounding the jumper wire, plus the jumper wire is too short to ground from the trunk latch and run to the rectangular box. Thanks a million tireburner, you saved me $35 to get it programed at the dealership for about less than 5 minutes worth of work.

From an e-mail I recieved: 96 Camaro keyless programming--

1- Turn ignition off. Remove RADIO fuse (fuse #17) from the fuse block. Cycle the ignition switch from OFF to RUN 3 times within 5 seconds until door locks and hatch release cycle. Indicating the BCM is in program mode. Leave ignition key in RUN postion.

2- Press both LOCK and UNLOCK button on Transmitter for 16 seconds. Door locks will cycle (LOCK then UNLOCK) confirming the transmitter has been programmed. Door locks must cycle completely to unlock before proceeding.

3- Repeat step (2) for each additional transmitter to be programmed.

4- Turn off ignition switch, and replace fuse #17. confirm fuctions of transmitter.

If you have an LED from the factory, mounted on the top of the dash pad, I can also send you instructions on how to program the different modes of the factory alarm.

Here an email I received from someone:

Here are the instructions as long as it's a Saturn (96-99) w/ power locks
As far as the programming, it's pretty simple actually and you need one
tool..... a metal paper clip. Yep, that's it. When you look under your dash
on the left of the steering wheel and below the hood release
you'll see the computer hook-up with 2 layers of 8 holes. In the top group
of holes you will see several with metal connestors inside.

Take the paper-clip and open it up into a sort of U shape just like the
letter "U" so thet the ends fit in 2 of the connectors. Counting from the
left you need to (making sure that the key is NOT in the ignition) count the
4th from the left and the far right one and put the ends of the clip in both
sockets. We call it the number 4 and the number 8 counting from the left in
the top row.

When you connect them your doors will all unlock and your trunk will
probably pop. You may hear a chirp. That's OK. Now take your remote and hold
it near the connections and push the lock and unlock buttons at the same
time and hold them for between 15 and 60 seconds until the horn honks.

It is now programmed. If you have another remote also do it before you
remove the paper-clip since they all need to be done under the same
programming.

Can anyone help with the procedure to program a 98 Ford Windstar remote? I just got an extra and don't want to have to deal with the local Ford store. If I program this one, will I have to change the one that works now? I don't want to mess with the one that works.
