I could excited is some new rally car models models were released by the Japanese manufacturers but they seem do have discarded these totally.
I don't think the Japanese manufacturers will bother with rally cars any time soon, the market simply is not there. It's more of a Euro thing, and several new European manufacturers have sprung up to cater for that market.

Re: Toyota 86 by Aoshima

Hobby Search just posted some pics of a completed model for the Tamiya Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ. Engine detail looks to be pretty decent. I wonder how it will compare to Aoshima's.

Nice but is there an engine inside?

We also got the civic sedan getting rereleased from hasegawa. Glad to see them as kits were going for $100 bucks.

MidMazar, it's a boxer engine so it's not very high. I guess there's an engine in Tamiya kits.

Re: Toyota 86 by Aoshima

What's up with everyone - from Kia to Toyota using BMW M-like side gills/grilles on the front fenders? I mean, bimmers had them for years, and then suddenly EVERYONE has them now. Even Buicks. Go figure.

Looks like the Tamiya will only have the top of the engine.

I took some pictures yesterday, here are some closeup on the parts
as you can see it is NOT a full engine.... the engine block is connected to the front fenders and on top of it there is a separate part with molded wires and pipes, that's it...

here are some more on other parts

and it seems like Aoshima version comes with 2 sets of wheels
you can see the parts here

Thanks for the detailed pictures! Looks like Aoshima is going to spank Tamiya with this model just like they are spanking Fujimi with the Aventador.

Re: Toyota 86 by Aoshima

more detail doesn't always make for a "better" model. Aoshima has stepped up thier game but i still prefer Tamiya kits over any others for the quality in which things are done and the overall accuracy.

Re: Toyota 86 by Aoshima

agree with Dave, Tamiya have half engine but in the end it will look very nice when painted and built, and parts will definetly fit. on friday I manage to acomplish aoshima Evo X...nice kit everything is ok but window is smaller than body= bad fitting, u cant do much with this fault for example

Re: Toyota 86 by Aoshima

Glad to see Tamiya's insert depicting how low the engine is, but man, that's a pretty broad expanse of unadorned firewall behind it.

I'm absolutely with Dave in giving my overall vote of confidence to Tamiya, but a version with an engine looks inevitable from Aoshima, and I gotta wonder if they might not fill in the open spaces a bit more completely...

Re: Toyota 86 by Aoshima

Also I noticed that Tamiya's kits have RHD only. Aoshima's have both.

Let the battle begin.
