Question losing power furthur up the tach

so my saturn is doin something ive never seen before. i have a 2000 SL2 with the DOHC engine and a 5 speed tranny. i got the car a few months ago and so far i have put it a timing chain, gears, tensioner, and guides. the diff pin went so i managed to get another 5 speed WITH a clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing for 350 bucks. anyways whats goin on now is when i floor the car it runs fine until you get about 4500 rpms then i noticed a power loss, once it hits 5500 the power loss is so noticable that it wont pulls the car past 5500 rpm in any gear. i cant figure it out. i cant remember if it did it before i put the timing chain on, or before i put the trans in. the car runs fine and has plenty of power as long as its below 4000 rpms. I know i put the timing chain in right. how ever wheni was putting the trans in my friend didnt disconnect the speed sensor and may have put the 2 wires in backwards. would that make a difference? im kinda lost here. i definitly dont wanna pull the motor AGAIN. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys!!!

Re: losing power furthur up the tach

Your car has a pre-cat. This sometimes falls apart and clogs the pipe. Remove the o2 sensor and run the car. See if it runs better. If it does, it is something with the exhaust.

I dont think the VSS wires matter. Not positive though

are you talking about the little canister one immediately after the collector on the manifold? if so, i already cleaned it out when i had the motor out for the timing chain. im gonna clean the other one out in a bit to see if that helps. ill keep you posted. a nice thing about this county is we dont have emissons yet
