91 3.0 block heater removal

hi i like to replace my block heater plug its not working how do i remove it i can feel for it in the back of the engine but not sure how u get it out

If you can see it then you will see a screw in the center, just loosen that screw after you remove the cord of course, then just lock a needle nose vise grip on it and pull it out. The screw hold a bar behind it that locks to the inside of the water jacket. It will only turn out so far, then after that the threads on the end prevent you from dropping the bat into the engine block. Upon replacement put a little white grease around the o ring and that will help to re seat it and don't try to over tighten it or you will break the screw. Just draw it into the collar.
