Unhappy Can no one help me?

I am trying to find out why our ford taurus stalls when it's at half a tank or lower, and seems to no longer stall when it get's filled up. As well if there is any link to why my engine light comes on after oil was put in, and now runs a bit rough and stalls as well more now, even when tank is full?

Signed desperatly needing some help or advice

It sounds like ffmike is on the right track but,

You need to tell us what year your car is, how many miles , and especially what engine it has.

The Taurus has 4 generations and there are many problems specific to each generation.

For instance on a Gen I or II there is a trick to replacing fuel pump and strainer basket without having to drop the fuel tank.

Anyway from what you have described a dirty fuel tank is probably the culprit.

Re: Can no one help me?

Has anyone thought of simply replacing the fuel filter?

Wink Re: Re: Can no one help me?

Thank you all so very much. Hubby said he thought they may be it, but wasn't sure, and I just wanted to ask the board as well, because we were concerned it could be something else, and just wanted to get a feel if other's thought the same.

We had asked autozone to do a codes test but they said they couldn't on this car. It was a different tool required. It's a 1996 ford taurus wagon. Seems from what everyone else is saying they should, but we called and they said they couldn't. That's wierd. But we are going to try the fuel filter this weekend. Hopefully that will be the answer. If not we are just going to have to pay to get the codes out unfortunatly.

Once again thank you all very very much.

Re: Can no one help me?

Your car is an OBDII system. They should have no problem reading the codes. The computer port is right under the dash on the driver side. CAll a different Autozone in your area.

Re: Can no one help me?

ok. 1996 ford taurus turn over once, mile are 169000. I believe it's a v6 3.1. Ok I did take it to autozone and the codes they had were po301 & po302. According to the label, that means a dual cylindar miss fire. Possible problems noted were spark plug problems, the wires or coil. A Vaccum leak, faulty fuel injector, fule pump out, or pressure regulator bad. Bought a fuel filter today and will put it on tomorrow, and Once again I thank everyone so much for all your help thus far. Any other troubleshooting advice we can do to narrow the search in these possibilities, sure would be helpful. Hope to not have to replace all these things to get to the problem.
