When do miles on odometer stop counting?

On my '02 Camry, how many miles will count on the odometer before it stops? Will it stop at 999,999?

Re: When do miles on odometer stop counting?

Dougla$ - I don't have anything so new as an '02 but odometers don't stop counting. They will rollover and start again; in the days of 5 digit odometers we would joke that we had gotten a "new" car when it went from 99,999.9 to 00,000.0 miles.

Re: When do miles on odometer stop counting?

We have a '03 Corolla that stopped at 299,999mi.
Research turned up that it's a common problem.
We replaced the gauge cluster with a low mileage E-bay find.

Actually, I'd already emailed the Toyota website asking this question. They said "When the odometer reaches its maximum mileage, it will stop". They failed to tell me what mileage that was.

The reason I'm curious is it looks like there is enough room for 7 digits on the odometer. (I know some tractor-trailer vehicles are like this).

Re: When do miles on odometer stop counting?

If someone ever drives a Camry enough to roll the odo over from 999,999 miles, I'd like to be there to see it...it's like seeing the planets aligned it is so rare.

Mine just clocked 240,000 miles. At my current rate of 23k per year it would take another 33 years to get to 1 million miles. Can't imagine what the car would look like by then...in 2043...yikes.

But if it stops at 299,999, then I'm only a few years away. But I do recall other Camrys going over 300k somewhere in this forum. Time will tell....

:sarcasm1:"Its maximum mileage" sounds to me like one of those lifetime guarantees - when it breaks, the lifetime is over and so is the guarantee...
