aerostar tranny problem

94 aerostar with barely over 100k. Runs great except between 40 and 50 mph. Acts likes it not sure what gear it is in. Also, shift linkage is off. When it shows it's in reverse it is still in park and so on for the rest of the gears. Is it possible this is cause of the problem?

Re: aerostar tranny problem

Welcome to AF!

Transmission range selector is out of adjustment. Put it in park and move the range selector as far forward as it will go at the transmission. The cable gets stretched out on the older models and has to be readjusted.

Re: aerostar tranny problem

Where is the adjustment? It looks like a solid cable.

Re: aerostar tranny problem

Had the same problem with my 93. Transmission would 'hunt' at about 50. Solution was changing bad distributor cap and rotor.
