95 yukon slt detent adjustment?

i'm having trouble with my yukon its a 1995 yukon slt 2 door 4x4. i just bought this truck and everything works great this isn't my first yukon. yesterday after driving fine and shifting fine i pulled into the driveway and it won't go back into park... i have checked the linkage at the transmission and have tried to adjust it. will not adjust that far. up inside the steering collum i undid the linkage on both ends and it slides back and forth fine with no binding. my question is this can you adjust the detent inside the collum? when tore down you can see where the shift gates are but it looks like the lock isn't letting it go down far enough???? any help would be greatly appreciated

UPDATE so i took the two screws out of the detent and now i can shift freely from park to 1, but when i put the detent plate back in with the screws then it won't go out of park or vice versa. and this is also causing the rear hatch fuse to blow so i think it is all connected in some way if anyone knows anything i would appreciate it, until then i'm getting back into the collumn
