2000 Chevy Silverado 4x4 tranny issue

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado, 5.3L, 4L60 Tranny.

Original Transmission would not shift out of 1st or 2nd gear in higher gears. Bought and installed a rebuilt transmission and have the same problem.

What gives?

Local Chevy garage tells me it needs to be programmed! If that is the case why did the original tranny do the same thing. Can someone give me directions on where to start to fix this problem. All help appreciated...

the fuses would be a start ..then pulling the oem drive train specific codes with the capable scanner is what most do ...If this is a chevrolet garage why are you asking these questions here...?

Programming would only be necessary if you were changing something (shift points, firmness, etc). For a swap, programming is not required.

Listen to j Cat and find out if there are codes stored.

Limp mode will leave you stuck in 2nd, You need to know the codes before you can fix anything.
