i have a '95 beretta 2.2 that is going through a quart of oil every 100 miles! I can find no leaks internal or external. NO blue smoke. I have never seen anything like it. Any one have an idea(s)???

Re: beretta oil use

take plugs out and look to see if crust is built up on them if so it is burning oil and those are known to put oil in all the time. i had one and 2.2 and if it wasn't one thing after another. i sold it and told them that and it ended up getting totaled..

Re: beretta oil use

If you unplug the PCV valve do you get a lot of smoke? It could be "blow back" which is poor rings and smoke could be getting run through the PCV and re ran into motor which would cut back on smoke you would see. Evidence would be dark plugs as mentioned and a large amount of smoke coming out of valve cover with the PCV hose onhooked. Usually a car like that has a bad crank seal or seals, bad gaskets ot just worn out. How many miles on it??

Re: beretta oil use

yeah these 2.2's do consume much oil after 100k miles.
Remember oil doesnt evaporate, so if its not leaving puddles under the car, its burning it.

Re: beretta oil use

Thanks I'll pull the PVC and see what I get. It has 140K on it. Plugs look fairly normal to white. The car has good power. Starts w/o fail and gets decent mileage. If it's blowing that much oil past the rings and recycling it through the system to be reburned its got one hell of an emission system. Any chance a head gasket could be causing this?

Re: beretta oil use

use this stuff called "Motor Honey" its really thick and is pretty much the same as Lucas Oil Stabilizer. My 96 neon was going through a quart every 50 miles so i added a bottle of Motor Honey durring oil changes and it didnt lose a drop of oil between changes and i did that from 128K miles to 210K when the head gasket went and warped the head.

Although ive heard it can be bad for your engine as it is so thick and can make starting in the winter fun but i drove with it in the engine for years with no problems from it. Infact a friend of mine that is a Mechanic recommened it.

Re: beretta oil use

Thanks for the suggestion. Sounds kinda like the old STP treatment. Worth a try. Thanks guys for all the suggestions.

Re: beretta oil use

I've tried the motor honey. There is no blow by smoke coming out of the PVC openning. Still can find no external leaks and absolutely no smoke. This one doesn't figure up. Using a quart about every fifty miles! Anymore ideas please.
