92 Safari blown turn signal fuse..again

ok you guys try this one...had a bad right rear 2057 stop lamp bulb and at same time had a blown turn signal fuse, changed bulb +fuse, put turn signal on right turn only, blew fuse. Took out both right side frt and rear turn signal bulbs, turned on right signal only..blew fuse. Replaced fuse tried left turn, works ok i think, flasher seems a little fast though, which would mean bulb out...but they're ok all around. Next, replaced fuse, didn't touch turn signal, pressed hazzard flasher on column, blew hazzard fuse.
right side must have a hot short somewhere but...tell me it's not the turn signal switch please, how bout wire chaffing on chassis??don't want to go there yet, arm out the window is working for now but it's real cold outside!!!!!!!!

Re: 92 Safari blown turn signal fuse..again

Whenever I experience dead short circuits in the tail lights/turn signals- as is yours- I look first at the trailer harness plug- Do you have one? If so is it corroded? You can unplug it in behind your jack stowage area (at rear right side)- then see if fuse continues to blow- will help to narrow it down- you can also look for chaffing in the body-through hole where the trailer harness is routed.

Other than that- look for dead shorts in sockets-- seems weird- it should also pop the brake light fuse- same filaments involved. Do brake lights work?

Re: 92 Safari blown turn signal fuse..again

To troubleshoot a fault like that, I put a lamp in place of the fuse. It's full brightness when the short is present, and dim when the power flows thru the circuit. I'd suggest a signal lamp, in a socket, and push the pigtails into where the fuse goes. Then go hunting.
Good luck
