88' S10 Blazer dies in cold.....

I have a 88' Blazer and I live in Alaska. My problem is that my Blazer dies in the cold weather. For example, on any day below 20 degrees, my Blazer will ALWAYS start just fine, but then when it goes to idle down, the vechile will die unless I have my foot on the gas. It pours out tons of black exhaust until my vechile finally warms up, in which my Blazer will not die when idling. Only when it's cold outside and my vechile cold will it die when it idles down. If I let my foot off of the gas it will die (when the vechile is cold.) As soon as the vechile is warm though, it runs great. I've also found my gas mileage has significantly decreased. My service engine light also comes on (once again, only if I haven't parked in a garage). I have also found that if my Blazer dies (because I let off the gas when it's cold), it will not start back up unless I hold the gas petal to the floor and turn it over for a few minutes.

When my Blazer is warm, all these problems are virtually non exisistant.

Check for broken wires, loose wires and Idle Air Control Valve function.
