01 GP GT...Shifter sticks in park when cold. READ
Hey
The odd morning when i start my car i go to leave and push the brake and go to move the shifter into reverse and it wont budge from park after 10 or 15 seconds of reapplying the brake and button on shifter it goes into gear I was reading about a solinoid in the collum itself?? do they crap out when the winter cold hits?? The brake lights come on when i hit the brake. so it cant be the brake switch what other component could be the cause of this and where it it located so i can swap it out

Do you hear the solenoid (key release) in the steering column energize or clunk when applying the brake and pressing the shifter release button? When you press the button it engages a park switch located at the bottom of the plunger in the shift lever and shifter assembly.

It sounds like the interlock solenoid is acting up in the shifter assembly and if the key release part of the BTSI is working at the steering column which it appears to be then I would rule that out. But first check the 12 volts at the BTSI fuse socket. Make sure it is at least 12 volts or higher. Other than that you'll have to get into the center console.
