96 Taurus overdrive problems
After looking through the forum I am still unclear about the transmission.
Problem: At first the O/D light started flashing and would kick the car out of overdrive. This happened on and off for a week then it stopped flashing but the car still does not run in overdrive. I noticed the engine is a little unstable, the rpms go up and down a little 700 to 1000 and so on. I am unsure if this is related. The car is a 96 taurus 3 L 24v duratec. If somecan can help I would apreciate it. thanks, |

Re: 96 Taurus overdrive problems
Have you stopped by your local auto parts store and had it scanned for codes? You might get lucky and find a code for something that could be related to both the engine and transmission. Most auto parts stores offer this service at no charge.

Re: 96 Taurus overdrive problems
I have an OBD reader and I am not getting any codes from the computer.I don't think there are any transmission codes anyways.??
Today it was cold and I noticed that the car would not engage in "D" at all when cold. After it was warm it did kick in and I was able to drive it. Maybe it is the transmission.? |

Re: 96 Taurus overdrive problems
It takes a professional scan tool to access the transmission codes. Well, any codes other than Powertrain (ie: P) codes. If the OD light is flashing, there will be a code, but you may need to find someone with a professional scan tool or visit a transmission shop.
