My shifter button broke how do I change it

I see a metal line in the shifter facing the radio area and I can't get it loose, my shifter button is broken and its falling out I have to hold it in place to change the gear.

Even went to the junkyard and tried it risk free on another intrigue plus the button was all sratched up but couldn't pull that off either.

I just used a flat head and turned it pulled it up and it doesn't move.

It's a spring clip. A small flat bladed screwdriver inserted on one of the ears of the clip, then push it away from the shaft, it should snap out. Watch it carefully, it will usually fly across the car and under the seat...

Make sure you get an aftermaket replacement. The dealer will ask you for $50 to replace it.

The clip came out toward to the dash and I used a thin flathead as remark123 said to grab it easier.

I pulled it up and out, recently got a nice leather one from the JY and changed it.
