High Idle after attempted kill switch installation

My first post. 95 Trans Sport 3.8L

In my attempt to install a car theft preventing fuel pump interrupt switch today, I may have done some damage, and I definitely feel like an idiot.

I located the wiring under the drivers side carpet and padding that goes to the fuel pump, fuel level sensor, and power seat motor. The fuel pump power wire is gray per wiring diagram. Cut it...Then tried to start motor. Starts, runs for about a second, until the fuel in the line is consumed...as planned. At this point I know I have the correct wire. I solder in a toggle switch - rated 30 amps - which is to be mounted in a somewhat hidden location under the drivers seat.

The purpose is so that once your vehicle is hotwired by the thief, unaware of the switch, they sit there making noise cranking the engine and hopefully think "oh musta picked a dead one" and leave your car. I've read on the web about this succesfully being done on a honda.

Now...Switch installed - I go to test it. Off position = no fuel, no start. Switch to on positon = Starts up quickly but idles steadily at 3000 RPM. I reversed and removed my modifications but the problem remained. Also tried removing the battery terminal for half an hour to possibly reset the PCM. Issue remains.

So...did I fry a sensor or the PCM, or is this a mean coincidence?

I was recently having high idle problems but they were taken care of by cleaning the contacts going to the IAC, MAF, TPS, and most - if not all of the other sensors in the area of the throttle body and intake manifold. Also losing OD after driving for a while, once the trans heats up. Checked fluid - OK. May be related if a sensor is bad?

Any Ideas?
Thanks!!!

Re: High Idle after attempted kill switch installation

I think the 2 issues are unrelated, all you have done is shut off power to the fuel pump. High idle noramlly is a result of large air leaks getting into the engine, from a cracked vaccuum line, leaking manifold gasket, EVAP purge solenoid fault, or IAC sticking
Good luck
Jeff

Re: High Idle after attempted kill switch installation

Did you disconnect the battery while installing the bypass and if so, did you remove the negative cable first? Do you have a scanner?

the tps might be some of your trouble if you haven't replaced it or you may ajust it.
