97 LSS blower motor quits, overheats, looses power
1997 Olds LSS, 95K (intake gasket replaced a year ago). Driving on highway, car acts like it overheats (warning light come on), AC blower motor stops blowing air, car looses power. Hasn't overflowed antifreeze yet. First time mechanic couldn't really find anything, replaced fuel regulator. Second time replaced thermostat, map sensor, flushed cooling system, cleaned off radiator. These fixes were all done in the last month. Three days ago it did it again. Don't want to just throw more parts at it. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. P.S. the last time it made it about 80 miles on highway before acting up. The first two times only about 10 miles on highway and acted up. Each time after leaving it sit and cool for about an hour we were able to drive back home without acting up on the way home.
Thank you so much, Brian White bwhite@mico.com |

Re: 97 LSS blower motor quits, overheats, looses power
A/c blower stops blowing "cool" air-- means a/c compressor has been disabled because engine temp is too hot- ecm does that to save the motor from overheating--so it is related to your engine overheat problem--
Is radiator warm or hot from top to bottom?- you may have restricted flow or plugged up radiator....

Re: 97 LSS blower motor quits, overheats, looses power
My daughter has been driving it when it happens each time. She say's the cars hot engine light comes on, ac goes off, it looses power so she pulls over and shuts it off. The first time it steamed a bit but didn't overflow antifreeze.
A few years ago we had the cooling system flushed and they replaced the red stuff (DexCool) with green. We've used green in it since. Would flushing the system again maybe fix it? Bwhite@mico.com |

Re: 97 LSS blower motor quits, overheats, looses power
If it was mine I would flush the cooling system, replace the thermistat, check the hoses for colapsing (bottom while at 1500-2000 rpms) and check the water pump for good circulation when hot.It could be that the water pump is not working well at times, also make sure that the cooling fans are both working properly, good luck.
