Help! My car is running richer than Bill Gates.
I just bought a '94 V6 with a rapid oil pan leak which I believe causes the oil pressure to get low the longer it is on. I figured I could drive the car as long as I routinely put oil into it. I did this excessively and didn't pay the appropriate attention to the dip stick. I added too much oil to the car over a period of 2 weeks, and one day disaster struck. I was pulling off the freeway and clouds of white smoke exited my exhaust. The car ran very poorly with a terrible oil smell, excessive smoke and black soot in my exhaust and no power. I drove the car in this poor condition for maybe 20 miles.
I eventually discovered my mistake and got the excessive oil drained from the car and most of the symptoms are gone, and the engine doesn't seem to have suffered any noticeable damage. The issue that I have had since this incident is poor gas mileage. The car just eats up gas like no tomorrow. I could swear that I burned a half a tank in 10 miles. I changed the air filter but nothing seems to have improved. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

How many Oxygen sensors are on the car? Is it just the two I see under the hood?

Re: Help! My car is running richer than Bill Gates.
I'm not 100% sure (maybe someone can say for sure), but there may be 2 more. There are usually one in each pipe before the cats and another in each pipe after the cats for a total of 4. That is how most cars now are. In a '94 I'm not sure. Visually inspect the pipes from the manifold to underneath.
